• i was asked a while ago, to create some fun party favors for making memories with a travel theme. i used the new panorama collection, my slice, and the parties design card.

    Panorama_video_project_blog

i sent extras along with my projects, and jenny filmed this fun video showing you how to re-create these three projects.

and while i'm posting a video, i figured i would go ahead and share this one also. it's one i had linked up a while back about another panorama project. just in case you hadn't seen it and want to, it's here. and because it matches the above projects so well 😉

    Panorama_door_hanger_detail2

any questions, just let me know. and be sure and keep checking the making memories site. there's a section on the right side of the page, that has lots of video inspiration from projects that the designers have done. and you'll also find lots of video how-to's on the slice site.

  • i'm back-tracking a bit to a few things i never got around to posting last month. one of those things was sarah's 11th birthday party. we had her party a few weeks before her actual birthday. with school, soccer, and church activites all ending around the same time, we wanted to do the party while everyone was still in touch.

    IMG_7411_edit_resize

she invited some of her best friends over for a swimming party. grammy and papa are always gracious enough to let us use their backyard and their pool for our parties.

    IMG_7296_edit_resize

there was lots and lots of swimming.

    IMG_7301_edit_resize

a few of the school friends.

    IMG_7294_edit_resize

alyssa watched everyone swim, until her friend got there.

    IMG_7320_edit_resize

there were pool games. this was something about guessing colors, and trying to catch each other.

    IMG_7340_edit_resize

sarah's soccer friends spend a lot of time on this tube.

    IMG_7348_edit_resize

we BBQ'd. actually, joe and his brother johnny BBQ'd, just like they always do.

    IMG_7349_edit_resize

the grown-ups ate, in the shade.

    IMG_7351_edit_resize

the kids ate, in the sun.

    IMG_7353_edit_resize

more swimming. and alyssa was happy that her friend made it there to help keep her company.

    IMG_7369_edit_resize

there were some you-know-what fights. eta: i'm re-phrasing what i had typed, since i'm not getting all sorts of weird google search engine hits coming up on my blog. how crazy is that?

    IMG_7371_edit_resize

which sarah and her BFF, tawny, won.

    IMG_7373_edit_resize

there were some games. the beanbag toss and some limbo.

    IMG_7420_edit_resize

and lastly, the best part of any party. presents, cake and ice cream. which was then followed by more swimming. they could have swam all day and all night. but, most of the girls were picked up for the day. and then 4 of sarah's best friends from school stayed for a sleepover. a perfect birthday party for our special 11 yr old 🙂

  • do you own a making memories slice? if you do, do you own one of the new hands free kits? i had received my hands free kit over a month ago. but i have to be honest. i hadn't pulled it out of the box until yesterday. i already had my regular glass mat all adhesived up and ready to go. so, when i did need to use my slice, i had just pulled that out since it was easy. but yesterday, i had quite a bit of slicing to do. so it was a good time to try it out.

    IMG_8005_edit_resize

i know that i'm a little partial to making memories products, since i'm lucky enough to design for them 😉 but it also has a lot to do with the fact that they really do put out amazing products. i have loved my slice since the day i started using it. but the new hands free kit? i honestly think it makes the slice a ton better than it already was.

i could explain the hands free kit and how it works and what you get. but marianne does it so much better, and is cuter to look at and listen to than i am anyways. lol!

    IMG_8008_edit_resize

i never had a problem holding my slice in place, while it cut. it's not like the images take that long to cut, unless you have a really intricate shape. then again, the fact that i didn't have to hold it in place, left me to do other things while it cut. i'm not one to sit still. if i have 10 free seconds, you can bet i'm going to find something to do with my time. lol! so as i was slicing for a few projects i was working on, i would get up and do things inbetween my cuts. a few times, i left my scraproom to do something in another part of the house and totally forgot i was slicing. the other thing that i noticed right away, is that i think the slice cuts a lot better with the hands free kit. there's less room for user error. not holding it right, holding it too tight or too loose, accidently having it move a little while cutting. the magnetic is so strong, that the slice stays exactly where it needs to be.

i was so excited about this, that i had to share it and demo it to everyone in the family today. i'm not sure how excited they were, but i figured that those of you with a slice would be able to appreciate this a little bit more. so i'm sharing with you. however, i cannot share what i was working on in these photos. you'll have to wait a little bit to hear or see more of that 😉

  • in the july/august 2010 issue of creating keepsakes, there's an article called "designer challenge: from layouts to card". and in the july/august 2010 issue of papercrafts, there's an article called "designer challenge: layouts inspired by cards". the creating keepsakes dream team girls were each given a card created by a papercrafts designer, and we each made a layout inspired by that card. and then the papercrafts go-too-gals were each given layouts created by the dream team, and used them for inspiration in making a card. it's fun to see how scrapbooking and cardmaking really do go hand in hand, and how we can find inspiration from each other.

    A_birdie_told_me_detail

if you go to the creating keepsakes blog and scroll down a bit (taking in all the other great projects, of course), you can find a really cute card designed by rae barthel. then if you go to the papercrafts connection blog and scroll down a bit (once again taking in all the other great projects), you can find my layout that i was inspired to create, based on rae's card. it was such a fun project to work on. make sure and check out the july/august issues of both magazines, so you can see all the other creations by the rest of the girls.

and if you think it sounds like a fun idea, there are two challenges going on right now. i think you still might have enough time to get in on one of them, and have a chance at some prizes. check out the Club CK blog, where you can participate in the card to layout challenge. and check out the moxie fab world blog, where you can participate in the layout to card challenge.

and while i'm talking about Club CK, i thought i'd give you a few more links. there's so much fun stuff going on, that you might lose track or miss something. did you know you can see what all is scheduled to be featured for the week, in one spot? it's all on the Club CK blog, along with lots of challenges and other info. click HERE to find the CK Club happenings for this week.

if you've been checking those "what's happening this week" posts, you might have even seen a SNEEK PEEK of something i worked on recently, that i'm super excited about 😉

  • time for another jillibean soup layout. this one went up on the jillibean soup blog today.

    Publication

these photos were taken on alyssa's first day of junior high. so that was 7th grade. and these are all the books she came home with that day. and carried too and from school, every day, all year. and then another year after that. you can read more about that day HERE. so glad i finally got around to scrapping these photos and the story to go along with it 🙂

just a fun detail shot. layouts are always sooooo much better in person, when you can see all the dimension and texture and details. but since you can't be here in person, a detail shot is as good as it's going to get. lol! all products on this layout are from jillibean soup, with the exception of the button and the charm. and don't ask me where i got that schoolhouse charm, because i've had it forever. but it's a good thing i saved it for this long. because it was truely meant to be paired up with the schoolhouse pattern paper 😉

  • we all know what this is, right? only the greatest invention in the whole wide world. the remote control.

    IMG_7761_edit_resize

this is what our's looks like. well, this is actually our upstairs remote. the downstairs one has green on the bottom, with a #1. your's might look different. this remote is one of the most important things in the house. if you're lucky enough to be holding it, you have more power and control than you know what to do with. whoever is holding the remote, is the one that decided what everyone else watches. but what happens if you can't find this remote? all power is gone. the control suddenly goes to whoever is motivated enough to get up from the couch and press the buttons on the tv to get the channel they want. lol!

but yesterday, we lost the remote. it wasn't a "we-misplaced-the-remote-and-we-can't-find-it". it was a strange dissapearance, that was unexplainable. it was there one minute. on the couch, because i had the world cup soccer game on. then sarah came downstairs and changed it to disney channel, and threw the remote back on the couch. 10 minutes later, it was nowhere to be found. it was the same amount of people in the room. no one had left or gone anywhere. nothing strange had happened. it was just there one minute and was gone the next. the girls were appauled that they had to press buttons on the tv to change the channel. so old school.

we did search here and there throughout the day. we didn't have the tv on that much, so it wasn't a huge priority. but we kept looking. then i had ran to the store to get something for dinner. and it dawned on me that without the remote, i had no way of getting to my recorded shows on the DVR schedule. then it became serious. dead serious. i came home and insisted that the remote be found.

so everyone looked. including alyssa's friend that was over. and sarah's friend that came in the middle of the search. for the few of you that actually know my house and have seen it, you know that i keep a very tidy house. there's really not a lot of places that it could get lost in. we searched every nook and cranny of this house. upstairs and downstairs. every cabinet and drawer, every closet and hamper. in the fridge, the freezer, and even the stove. you just don't know where things can end up, right? we moved the couches about 4 times, taking out all the cushions every time. we even turned them upside down, and inspected the bottom part.

our search turned up nothing. absolutely nothing. we gave up. we mourned the loss of our remote. i was actually really depressed about it. my one quiet time of the day, is late at night when the girls are finally asleep and joe's off at work. and i can sit down and watch a few of my recorded shows on the DVR. how could i do that now? i was so distracted by the whole situation, that i was having a hard time focusing on my assignment due this morning. i kept scanning the house, still looking for that remote. retracing steps, or where it could be.

late last night, i was getting stuff ready for bed. i wasn't going to bed, just prepping. lol! but i went to switch my pillow with joe's, since i like to sleep on his side when he's not here. i flung his pillow to the other side, and i head a big clunk as it hit the headboard. no, it couldn't be. but yes, it was. the remote was INSIDE his pillowcase. how crazy is that? it all came back to me. his pillow had been on the downstairs couch that morning, since he had taken a before-work nap the night before. when he got home from work yesterday morning, i went to take his pillow upstairs. i guess i didn't notice that it was a little heavier. and i guess he didn't notice anything, as he slept on it for 8 hours. lol!

needless to say, we're all happy to have our remote back. we're all glad we don't have to search for it anymore. we're excited to be able to get to our recordings. and i was finally able to concentrate and get my assignment done :)

  • i have a layout share today, from a recent issue of creating keepsakes magazine.

    Cherish_little_things2

as seen in the May/June 2010 issue of Creating Keepsakes magazine. copyright creative crafts group. posted with prior permission from the publisher.

the journaling reads: "these photos capture the stuff i love the most. the everyday moments, where the girls and their friends are doing normal girl things. hanging out around the house. playing and singing and dancing. being silly and laughing about everything. they have this easy way of turning ordinary days, into wonderfully fun days. i love that they don't always have to go places or do fancy things. they are at their happiest just doing everyday things and just being together."

we've had a lot of those ordinary days around here lately. being that i work at home, with the daycare kids, we don't have a lot of freedom to come and go whenever we'd like. and it limits the things that we can do with the girls, when they're not in school. it can be hard sometimes, and they definately get bored a lot. especially now that they're a bit older. but they are also pretty good about being content at home. they've always had great imaginations, and it's always amazing at what they come up with to pass the time and enjoy the days. since we're not able to always go places and do things, i like that they don't need to always go places and do things. kwim?

    Cherish_little_things_detail1

this layout was featured in the "CK shows you how: to use rub-ons" column. my assignment was to show a technique for embellishing rub-ons. i choose to use these creative imaginations flower rub-ons. i have had them forever, and had always loved the ones with the letters all inside the flower design. i started by rubbing the flower onto white cardstock, and then cutting the flower out. i outlined the flower with pink puffy paint, and then covered the entire flower in diamond glaze. it dries clear, and gives off an epoxy look. then i added a button, with mini brads to the center of the flower.

    Cherish_little_things_detail2

i also added some diamond glaze to my title. it's a rub-on title, from carolee's creations. another oldie, but goodie. i rubbed it directly onto my layout, and then added the glaze. it adds a nice, subtle touch.

eta: dawn emailed me a great question about this layout, and i wanted to share it here. "i would never know what colors to pick, because all the kids are wearing different colors. so how did you pick the colors and what else to put on it, like the flower? i would have never thought to put a flower on there."

here's my secret, for what it's worth. my assignment was to embellish rub-ons. so i started with just finding a rub-on that i could embellish … and i came across these flowers and thought they'd be fun to work with. then i was trying to find a rub-on title, and found this long one (it's all one rub-on). so i just pulled the colors from the title for my pattern papers, since it had so many colors. the photos just sort of happen to work with it. i think i had the photos picked out before the papers, from what i remember. if i had scrapped those photos without a specific plan .. i would have choose totally different colors, i'm quite sure of it. but flowers? i think flowers can work on any given layout, about any given subject. even boys 😉

  • do you remember that cute little doggie treat jar i shared last month? did you print out the instruction card to add to your slice inspirations box? well, last week on the making memories blog, they posted another project i created with the new paws & claws design card.

    Slice_paws&claws_congrats_on_your_new_dog_card_detail

check it out over on the making memories blog, and you will find the link to print out a copy of the instruction card that you can add to your box. i created 3 projects for this design card. the newer design cards have an inspirations project card included in the packaging. so you'll have to purchase the design card, to see my third project 😉

  • i have some layouts to share today, using the new making memories panorama collection. these were samples i did last january, for CHA. keep in mind, these are all 6×6 layouts, since they were for the booth.

    Mm_panorama_fly_6x6layout

this is my brother and my sister-in-law. i went straight to them when i needed travel photos. since they travel constantly. us? not so much. and he made sure to point out that i have that airplane trim upside down on these layouts. wasn't even something i thought about as i adhered them down. lol!

    Mm_panorama_exploring_nature_6x6layout

that's my sister-in-law, hiking somewhere. i thought the little arrow was cute, pointing her out in the photo.

    Mm_panorama_paradise_6x6layout

alyssa and her dad, on a trip to hawaii a few years ago. once again, upside down airplane trim. lol! i've used this photo before. i really need to find new travel photos next time.

    Mm_panorama_hawaii_6x6layout

i think this photo is from my brother, from one of their hawaii trips. i used the slice embossing tips along the bottom strip of cardstock, for the flowers.

  • seems like it's been forever since i had a jillibean soup layout to share. mine just fell later this month. but i had one go up on the jillibean soup blog today.

    Joe_my_man

it's a pretty basic and simple layout. sometimes, i need layouts like that. i just started with this 5×7 photo of joe, and started building my papers around it. and confession time. i'm sure i've mentioned this before, but the title is almost always one of the last things i do. so i'm usually trying to come up with a title that fits whatever space i have left. which is how this ended up being "my man".
