Hey everyone! I'm back to share the last spread from 2017 Project Life album, for the month of April. This is week seventeen. Alyssa was missing from the first two weeks of April, since I guess she didn't have any photos from those weeks. But she made up for it in week seventeen. Which is good, because I didn't have many photos for that week.

    LauraVegas_2017PL_Week17a

I pulled out this star from Heidi Swapp, that I've had forever. They're not really plastic, but not really a transparency. I'm not sure what they were actually called back in the day. Kind of like a plastic transparency of some sort. Lol. I think they were pure white back then, but they have more of a cream tint to them now. I simply added an enamel dot to the center to cover up the glue dot I used to adhere the star to my 3×4" filler card.

    LauraVegas_2017PL_Week17b

The photos on the second page of the spread really dictated my color scheme for the entire spread. Red and black. It ended up working nicely, since there's Sarah's red car in the photo above, and the cute doggie  with lots of black fur.

    LauraVegas_2017PL_Week17c

I was thinking I would need to add in some blue/aqua to tie in this fun photo from Alyssa, but I didn't feel like I needed to once I sat down to work on it.

    LauraVegas_2017PL_Week17d

I thought I was being so clever with my journaling cards for Alyssa's concert photos. Her and her best friend had gone to two concerts in the same week, and had a few photos from each. Since I didn't have that many photos of my own to use, I added in two photos from each concert.

I thought I would google the artists, to find a photo of them that I could add to the journaling cards. I found this square image from Chance the Rapper, and the colors worked well with the photos. For whatever reason, it didn't dawn on me that "Rock, Paper, Scissors Package" wasn't the name of the tour, but a special package you could purchase for the concert itself. Alyssa sort of laughed at me when she saw it. Lol. This is what happens when I'm left to my own devices.

    LauraVegas_2017PL_Week17e

Since I was shorter on photos than usual, I was able to work in an extra filler card. The red card is from Simple Stories, and the black one is from an Amy Tangerine PL kit.

    LauraVegas_2017PL_Week17f

Another month, totally complete and finished. A little later than planned, but it feels good to have a third of the year finished. I've been busy working on some layouts for a few special projects, but I'm trying to work on my journaling cards for May when I can. And I just placed my order for my June photos a few days ago, so they'll be here by the end of the week. Still really loving this project!

Happy Monday! Hopefully, you've all had a great weekend. I somehow managed to score a four day weekend, so I've had a fabulous weekend 😉 I'm back to share week sixteen in my 2017 Project Life album.

    LauraVegas_2017PL_Week16a

I'm not much of a selfie taker, but when I do, I usually turn to Snapchat to take them. I feel a lot cuter as a bunny, or some other silly filter, than I do as my regular self. Lol. I keep telling the girls to send me Snapchat photos to include in the album, but they never think to do it. So sometimes, if they send me a Snapchat, and I think it will make a fun addition to our album, I screenshot it.

    LauraVegas_2017PL_Week16b

I'm also not great at taking selfies like the one above. I was sitting on the couch, and wanted to take a pic of my favorite jammies. I'm not even kidding when I say I must have spent 20 minutes trying to get a photo that I liked, and it took at least 50+ shots to get it. I'd like to think eventually I'd get better at them, but I don't.

    LauraVegas_2017PL_Week16c

I think I've mentioned before that I have a large stash of Studio Calico PL cards. They're a random mix of cards, as opposed to pulling out a specific Project Life collection or a collection from other manufactures, like Simple Stories or WRMK. So I try and browse thru them whenever I'm looking for filler cards for my weekly spreads.

Just in case something will work. And this "meh" card worked perfectly, to tie in with the photo and journaling card above it. I simply added some washi tape to the top and bottom, and some older chipboard letters to the center.

    LauraVegas_2017PL_Week16d

The kraft 3×4 filler card above is also from Studio Calico. My "16-17' recorded shows" isn't really the accurate description of the photo below it. But the photo is of the travelers notebook project I did documenting all my favorite shows of the 2016-2017' TV season. So I guess it worked out ok.

    LauraVegas_2017PL_Week16e

Still making good use of the million smaller stickers I have in my stash, that never seemed to get used on layouts. Yet they work so perfectly for pocket pages.

    LauraVegas_2017PL_Week16f

You know, I usually text Alyssa and ask her for some facts to go along with her pics. But if I need more info, to fill a journaling card, I will do my best to add to it. But in doing so, I sometimes get my facts wrong. Like above. Turns out, two members received Panhellenic scholarships. I thought it was just Alyssa that got one, since she was the only one with a "big check'. And yes, she got to keep that, and it's sort of cool!

Hey everyone! I've got a new layout up at Kerri Bradford Studio today. I just love these photos my daughters and I took on Mother's Day, and knew I wanted to get them on a layout right away. When I sat down to work on my next layout for Kerri, I knew it was the perfect time to I collaged my photos together using a template from Kerri's Half Pints #1 kit, and got to work designing the page around my photo collage.

    KBS_LauraVegas_LoveYouGirls_detail1

I wanted to keep my background simple, to let the colors in my photos and patterned papers stand out, so I went with a white-on-white die cut background. I die cut a heart background from white cardstock, using a cut file from the Heart Backgrounds kit, and adhered it to another sheet of white cardstock to create the base of my page. I spritzed the entire page with mists in colors that coordinated with my patterned papers, to add just a bit of color to the background.

    KBS_LauraVegas_LoveYouGirls_detail2

When deciding on titles for most of my layouts, I start by just browsing thru Kerri's files within my Silhouette library, and I'll usually come up with several options to choose from. For my title on this layout, I combined the "love you" (taken from a freebie "love you mom" cut file) and "girls" (taken from the All In The Family kit), and die cut each from patterned paper.

    KBS_LauraVegas_LoveYouGirls_detail3

While the patterned papers I picked out for this layout are new (all from Shimelle's Little By Little collection), the embellishments I picked out to add to the page are old. I had fun digging thru my stash of embellishments from years and years ago, and pulling out some fun pieces to finish off the page.

    KBS_LauraVegas_LoveYouGirls_detail4

I always loved these plastic flowers from Making Memories, and I remembered that I used to add a flattened metal rimmed tag to the center, finished off with a button. I thought that would be fun to do for this layout, and dug around for some flowers that would match. I have tons and tons of the metal rimmed tags, but turns out I didn't have many smaller sized ones. I had to use a few that had the paper inside the metal rim (like an actual tag, as opposed to just the rim), and take out the paper.

    KBS_LauraVegas_LoveYouGirls_detail5

I also added two pieces of Magic Mesh to the sides of the layout. Such an old product. If some of you aren't sure what Magic Mesh is, it's the pink dotted piece stapled to the right side above. I always loved the dotted mesh, but still have lots of the regular mesh as well. Adds a fun texture without much fuss.

And a totally random fact. This had to be the hardest layout ever to photograph. I tried three different times before getting some semi-decent pics. I want to say it had something to do with all of the white, but I've had plenty of layouts with lots of white. So that doesn't make much sense. The girls and I look super white, and while I might be white, my girls are definitely dark skinned 😉

  • LauraVegas_2017PL_Week15

Hey all! I'm back to share another week in my 2017 Project Life album. I apologize if these all look the same. There's not a lot to point out, since I'm really following a lot of the same design ideas from week to week. Same weekly title card, same monthly maker card, simple black and white digital journaling cards, and simple embellishments. But I still enjoy sharing them, so hopefully you don't mind seeing them 😉

    LauraVegas_2017PL_Week15a

My good friend Deneen came by last week and was peeking at my album, as I had it sitting out trying to finish up these spreads. And she said "oh look, one of Sarah's dog photos". Lol. I've actually come to love them. In fact, I don't think Sarah sent me any dog photos for May, and it just won't be the same.

    LauraVegas_2017PL_Week15b

Can I say that I really wish Project Life cards didn't have rounded corners? Most of the time, it doesn't even bother me that I can see the corners of photos, journaling cards, or other straight corner filler cards sticking out of the rounded corner cards. Yet sometimes, it really does bug me a bit. I have no desire to round all my corners, so I just have to deal with the cards that do have the rounded corners.

    LauraVegas_2017PL_Week15c

Gosh, that's some glare there on that photo. Or the photo of the photo I should say. Behind the scenes secret. When I take photos of my layouts, I have to use my DSLR camera, and I take tons of photos, in hopes that I get the best shots I can. When I take photos of my Project Life album, I have to use my phone, and I literally take one single shot for each photo you see here. Just one try, as opposed to the 10 shots I might take for each photo you'll see for a layout. Lol.

    LauraVegas_2017PL_Week15d

Some weeks, I slip my photos in and I think "how am I going to coordinate these colors together?". But somehow, it just ends up working. For this week, I ended up focusing on yellow, pink, and aqua. Even though I have lots of other colors going on.

    LauraVegas_2017PL_Week15e

Figures my girl would be unprepared for her last ever, high school sports photo. Lol. She didn't have her track shoes with her that day, for whatever reason, and had striped socks on to make it even more awesome. Lol.

    LauraVegas_2017PL_Week15f

That wraps up week fifteen. I have two more weeks to share, so I'll continue with the next week on Friday Monday (since I ended up posting a new layout on Thursday). I still haven't started typing up my May journaling cards, even though I'm pretty sure I said I would do that two days ago. My days just seem to get away from me. But I'm sure that happens to plenty of us, right?

  • LauraVegas_2017PL_Week14

Hey everyone! So, I know I said I'd be back a week ago to share a new layout, but I had a change of plans with that one. So it will have to wait a bit. But I finally got around to finishing up my April spreads in my 2017 Project Life albums this past weekend, so I'll be sharing those this week.

The last time I shared some PL spreads was almost two months ago. I have been super good about finishing up each month by the time the next month is over. So by the time I have another month's worth of photos in hand, my previous month is all complete. But I got off track a bit, since there just seemed to be a lot going on in May.

    LauraVegas_2017PL_Week14a

So, I'm starting off with week fourteen, which was the first week of April. A week that didn't really have that many photos. I like to include a photo or two of the daycare kids each week, since they're such a huge part of my week. But since I was so short on photos for this week, I worked in three pics of them.

    LauraVegas_2017PL_Week14b

And, it wouldn't be the same if there wasn't a photo of a random dog from Sarah. Lol. I haven't paid that much attention to the actual dogs in the photos she sends me, so I'm sure I'm actually seeing the same dogs here and there. I'm still loving using the 3×4" calendar card for each week, with the dates the week covers marked with the little stars.

I'm using the Project 52 Fresh Calendars from Becky Higgins – I'm linking to the digital kit thru her site, but I'm actually using the kit on the Project Life app. I use the app to put two 3×4" photos on a 4×6", and then I send them to myself using Dropbox. To mark the dates, I added a digital star "stamp" to the days of the week. I lowered the opacity, so that you can still read the dates thru the stars. Once I had the markers on there, I sent them back to my phone using Dropbox, and then added them to my photo order.

    LauraVegas_2017PL_Week14c

With one less photo than usual for this week, I worked in one extra filler card. The one above, "life as we know it", is from Simple Stories. My other two filler cards are from Project Life kits.

    LauraVegas_2017PL_Week14d

I'm still turning to some of the same basic supplies when embellishing my cards. Chipboard shapes, enamels, lots of alpha stickers, labels, and washi tape. Lots of older products that I've held onto for years, and am finally using more.

    LauraVegas_2017PL_Week14e

For anyone wondering about my journaling cards, I did a post earlier this year all about them. You can read about my digital journaling process, and find links to all of the designs I've been using HERE

    LauraVegas_2017PL_Week14f

I'm so glad to finally have April finished up. Especially since I received my photo order with all of my May photos two weeks ago, and worked all of the photos into my album right away. I plan on getting my journaling cards typed up and printed out over the next few days, and then I can start completing the weekly spreads. Excited to get back on track with this album, as it's by far my favorite project these days.

Two posts, in two days. I'm impressed with myself 😉 So, I mentioned that a week or so ago, I put together some photo collages to use on layouts. Most of the photos of the girls these days don't really scream "make a layout with us", seeing as how most of them are just random photos, selfies, etc. But I have done little "photo shoots" with both of the girls here and there, and I knew I wanted to get some of those photos scrapped and in their albums.

These photos of Alyssa were taken this past January, right before she went back to college for the spring semester. I collaged a few favorites together using a template from Kerri Bradford's Picture That [Squared] kit. The template I used actually has six photo openings in it, but I tweaked it to make it five, as I wanted a large square photo. The templates are easy to customize when needed.

    LauraVegas_YouRock_detail2

I didn't really have a title in mind, so I browsed thru my Silhouette library, looking for something that jumped out at me. And "you rock" did just that. I knew that I wanted my journaling to be about her college life and what all she was doing when these photos were taken. And since she's in the music conservatory, and majoring in Music Management, I knew the "you rock" title would work well.

    LauraVegas_YouRock_detail1

I knew I had to have at least one or two music note patterned paper in my stash. It took me a while to find, but I did find this black patterned paper, from Die Cuts With A View, that I used for the background of my page. Once again, I used some dotted embossed cardstock from Core'dinations. And then I added in the green dot patterned paper and the blue grid patterned paper, both older papers from Scenic Route.

    LauraVegas_YouRock_detail3

Since I had a music related title, it was a good opportunity to use some of the music themed cut files I've never had a chance to use. I've always loved the heartbeat music note design, as it's very simliar to a tattoo Alyssa got when she turned 18. It took me several attempts to get it to cut though. I finally had to use the "offset" to make the design a bit thicker, as it was the only way I could get it to work in the smaller size.

    LauraVegas_YouRock_detail4

Since I was on this kick to use some older embellishments/products, I went digging around for something fun to use on this layout. I came across these metal grommets from Making Memories. Now, I have the tool to add/attach them to projects, but for the life of me, I couldn't remember how to use it. Lol. What I did remember was that if you use the tool, it would punch a hole from your paper, so that essentially, you'd be able to see thru the circle, or thru your page. And I didn't want that.

So I simply flattened the prongs on the back of the grommets, and added tiny pop dots to the backs to adhere them to the page. I also added a few blue and green brads, and some tiny little silver dots to help embellish the left side of the page.

    LauraVegas_YouRock_detail5

I also added some of these metal photo turns to the top and bottom of the page. Are they called "photo turns"? I'm not even sure. That's the first thing that popped into my mind, so that's what I'm calling them ;)

I'll be back next week with another new layout. Hope you all have a great weekend!

  • Hey everyone! After a bit of a creative break here on the blog (since I have been creating lots here in real life), I'm finally back with some layouts to share. Yep, layouts! I know I haven't been making quite as many layouts this year, as I've been focusing more on my Project Life album and other random album projects. But a week or two ago, I was inspired to create a handful of photo collages with the intention of creating some layouts. And this past weekend, I managed to create three new layouts, just for fun.

    LauraVegas_CuddlyBoy

This layout is kind of an update on a layout I created a little over a year ago. You can see that layout HERE. The photo collage on that first layout was all of the rocking chair photos I had of Derek his first year of life. That year when he would only nap on my shoulder, while I held him, in the rocking chair. It was a LONG year. Lol. Then he was home for the summer (mom's a teacher), and when he came back to me he was super good about napping on the floor with his other friends. He was only 14 months at that time, but napped right on the floor.

But it never failed. As soon as his little eyes would pop open, he would come straight to me, wanting to get some snuggles in. Every. Single. Day. I'd pick him up, and we would head straight to the rocking chair. Sometimes, he would fall right back to sleep and we would hang out in the rocking chair until his friends woke up from their naps. Sometimes, after a bit of snuggles, he would be energized and ready to play.

    LauraVegas_CuddlyBoy_detail3

And I found myself, once again, taking those super fun rocking chair photos. The first photo in the collage (upper left corner) is Derek at 14 months, and the last photo in the collage (bottom right corner) is Derek just days after turning 2 years old. Basically, these photos are his second year of life. And I just love it. I love collages like this, that show an assortment of photos taken over a long period of time. And once I realized how many of these photos I had, I knew I wanted to do a second version of that first layout.

I kept with the same collage template, from Kerri Bradford's Storyboard: Instagram Style kit, as it works perfectly for my square photos. Once again, I ended up with twelve photos. So once again, I left three spaces in the template empty, knowing I would add my journaling there. I arranged my photos by the date they were taken, so they all go in order from oldest to newest.

    LauraVegas_CuddlyBoy_detail1

This past weekend, I was inspired to dig out some older products when creating my layouts. There's a lot of color going on in this photo collage, so I didn't set out with any particular colors in mind. I think I actually started with the white embossed cardstock, from Core'dinations, as I had also pulled out another color of that same cardstock for another layout. That strip was all I had left, and it ended up being the perfect size to hold my title.

The green dotted cardstock came just like that. It wasn't something I die cut, although I think most of you know I'm a huge fan of die cutting circle background pieces like that. It was actually a part of a super old kit-of-the-month from Creating Keepsakes, and again, all I had was that strip to work with and the size was perfect. From there, I came across some older Studio Calico patterned paper. The striped paper just seemed perfect to go with my photo collage, as it had a lot of the same colors.

    LauraVegas_CuddlyBoy_detail2

For my title, I searched in my Silhouette library, looking for something like "snuggles", and while I couldn't find that, I did find "cuddly". That would totally work. I added "boy" from one of Kerri's cut files, to get my "cuddly boy" title. Derek is seriously the cuddliest boy ever. None of these other kids here cuddle, or even sit still on my lap. Except him. He's up for it ALL the time.

When I went to add some buttons to my layout, I may have said "who has buttons that would match that striped paper" out loud to myself. I had a few jars pulled out, and then remembered that I had some Studio Calico buttons I had picked up on a big sale a year or two ago. Since the striped paper is by SC, it made sense to use SC buttons.

    LauraVegas_CuddlyBoy_detail4

I wanted to add a little something under my photo collage, and had this yellow tone-on-tone dotted paper pulled out. I punched some quick half circles, and adhered them across, tucking them under the collage.

    LauraVegas_CuddlyBoy_detail5

Little dude is home for the summer again, and I miss his already. I miss his snuggles. He'll be back before I know it, and I'm feeling pretty confident there will be more of these rocking chair photos to come 😉

  • Photo May 26 5 59 22 PM

"A little over a week ago, this happened. The big moment that marks the end of a huge chapter of our kid's lives. After spending thirteen years going to school, surviving Kindergarten thru 12th grade, the moments comes when they walk across the stage (or the grass, if you're like our school) and get their high school diploma. It's an awesome moment for our seniors. And even though it's a hard moment for us parents, to realize that our kids have gone and grown up and are entering adulthood, it's also an amazing moment, and a proud moment for us".

And yes, I copied that from the blog post I did sharing Alyssa's high school graduation three years ago – because the words are still perfect and sum up the feelings about that big night. Actually, I'll let you in on a little secret. I'm coping and pasting quite a bit from Alyssa's graduation post, and just adding a few things, and switching out some facts/names as needed. Is that cheating? Lol.

    IMG_3982_edit_resize

Our graduation ceremony is held on the football field, with all of the seniors, teachers, faculty, and the band on the field. Depending what side of the field your senior is sitting on determines which set of bleachers you sit in. Home or visitors. I was so happy when Sarah came home from practice that morning and told me she was on the home side. When Alyssa graduated, she was on the visitor side, and it was much harder to hear over there.

    IMG_3984_edit_resize

Just like almost every other year, at graduation time, it was super windy out. Having been thru this before, I suggested to Sarah and her friend that got ready at our house, that they pin their caps on. But they said there were fine. They weren't, but I'm not even sure pins would have helped. There were hats and cords flying everywhere. Everyone spend a good portion of the ceremony holding their caps on their heads. Lol.

    IMG_3995_edit_resize

We heard a few speeches, all of which I thought were really well written and spoken. Then they got to what everyone was waiting for. The distributing of the diplomas. They had tables set up on both sides of the field, so that students could feed in from both sides at once.

    IMG_3996_edit_resize

Funny-not-funny moment from the ceremony. Right after I snapped the photo of Sarah at the podium, and her name was called – my camera froze up and I realized my memory card was full. The worst possible moment, as my girl was receiving her diploma and I wasn't able to capture it. I did a "are you freaking kidding me right now", and rummaged in my purse to get another memory card swapped out.

    IMG_4006_edit_resize

My sister-in-law, sitting next to me, yelled out "SARAH! STOP!!!". She did, and I was able to snap the photo above. Whew. Kicking myself for missing part of the big moment, but glad I got the pics I did. And Alyssa actually captured Sarah's big moment on a Snapchat video, so I also have that, where we can hear them announcing her name.

So there she is, diploma in hand. Well, the diploma folder in hand. I'm not sure if all schools do this, but they had to go into the office this week to pick up the real diploma. Which makes sense to me, since you really don't want to risk losing that important piece of paper in the craziness that happens after the ceremony.

    IMG_4007_edit_resize

After all of the diplomas were handed out, the graduates all walked out and spread themselves out around the edge of the football field (actually, the track around it). They were officially announced as the graduating class of 2017, and proceeded to throw their caps in the air. If the wind hadn't blown them off already!

    IMG_4010_edit_resize

    IMG_4026_edit_resize

And want to hear something weird? I didn't cry, or even tear up. And I ALWAYS tear up at stuff like this. Usually proud tears. But then again, I didn't tear up or cry at Alyssa's graduation either, so it didn't surprise me. Maybe it was the large venue, or the fact that it all went by so quickly. Or maybe I had just prepared myself so well for this moment, that I was able to just take it all in without it getting the best of me.

    IMG_4014_edit_resize

Once we all got out to the field, we made sure to get some family photos, before tracking down her friends for photos. It's not too noticeable in some of these photos, but it was starting to get dark. The stadium lights came on, which can be a challenge to work with. My external flash went from working, to not working, to working again. Luckily, with the magic of Photoshop, I was able to do my thing with most of the photos we took.

    IMG_4018_edit_resize

I just love my girls! It's crazy to think that I now have two college students. Alyssa is headed into her last semester in the fall, and Sarah will be starting her first semester of college in the fall. Alyssa will be turning 21 in a few months, and Sarah turns 18 in a few weeks. Again, that's just crazy to me!

    IMG_4016_edit_resize

    IMG_4012_edit_resize

We were super bummed that my parents ended up across the country, and had to miss Sarah's graduation. They were on a cruise that was planned by someone else, and didn't realize the scheduling conflict. But we were happy that both my brother, and his wife, were able to come. We didn't have enough tickets for Alyssa's graduation, so only my brother got to come to her big day.

    IMG_4025_edit_resize

Alyssa's dad and her grandpa were also able to come. Ken and his family have always been super supportive of Sarah, and she's truly a part of their family. While Joe is Alyssa's stepdad, we always say that Sarah lucked out and got a stepdad too – even though he's not technically a stepdad to her.

    IMG_4066_edit_resize

Me and my girl. We missed getting a photo together right after the ceremony, so we got one at the very end of the night, when we were one of the last ones left on the field. I can't even put into words how proud I am of this amazing girl of mine. She's a mini-me, who is taller than me. She's a smart girl, and can do awesome things when she puts her mind to it. I can't wait to see what she accomplishes next. Love you baby girl!

I have many more photos I would love to share from that night. If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you've probably already seen them. One way or another, they will all be appearing here on the blog sometime soon, as I'm excited to get them all scrapped and in her school album.

Hey everyone! I've got a new layout up over at Kerri Bradford Studio today. Over the years, I've been known to frame layouts for family and friends to display in their homes. My parents recently put in a request for an updated layout for one of these frames that hangs in their hallway. When my mom brought the frame over, I was surprised to see that the old layout was well over 15 years old. Crazy how tiny the girls were in the photos.

I knew I wanted to keep the new layout simple and clean, with one great photo. The first photo that came to mind is one that I took of the girls this past Thanksgiving. I printed it as a 5×7" pic and set out to make a simple layout that would tie in with their home decor.

I started by die cutting a white cardstock floral background, using a cut file from Kerri's Background Basics kit. I lightly spritzed the background with tan and pink misting spray, before adhering it to an aqua patterned paper from Heidi Swapp.

My parents have a lot of aqua, mauve, and browns in their home decor, so I knew I wanted to stick to those colors when picking out my patterned papers. I matted my photo twice, using a few patterned papers from Basic Grey and Pebbles. I kept the embellishments simple, by adding some coordinating buttons to the center of the flowers on the background cut.

I went digging around in Kerri's kits for a good title/sentiment to tie in with the photo, and settled on "happy life", from Kerri's Grateful kit. I die cut it three times from a brown woodgrain patterned paper, adhering the pieces together to add a little thickness to the words.

I love that it's a simple and clean looking layout, that will look perfect framed and hanging on my parent's wall to show off their granddaughters.

And in case anyone asks, because I have a feeling someone will – the frames are incredibly old, and were custom made from a frame company my mom used at the time. I bought an insane amount of these 12×12" frames back in the day, and have used them a ton. I still have many of them in my own house, but have spray painted most of them black to match my decor better. I know there are other options for 12×12" frames out there, so I wouldn't think something similar would be too hard to find.

  • This coming Saturday is [inter] National Scrapbook Day, and over at Kerri Bradford Studio, the design team has been sharing projects leading up to this fun day. I've got a project up today, which I'm excited to share with you all.

I was brainstorming what to create for my [inter] National Scrapbook Day project, knowing that I wanted to use Kerri's A Big Day stamp set. At some point, I was reminded of what I had created for iNSD two years ago – a 6×8" pocket page spread documenting my favorite TV shows (seen HERE). The days of the week stamps gave me the idea to create an updated look at my favorite shows.

This time, I decided to try out the travelers notebooks that are all the rage lately, and that I have yet to try. The smaller size appeals to me, as I haven't been creating as many layouts these days. Also, these little notebooks seem to be a good fit for my "less is more" approach when it comes to keeping my projects simple – putting the focus more on the photos and/or stories, and making it less about the embellishments and "stuff".

Since I had the days of the week stamps that I wanted to use, I decided to break down my favorite shows by what I watch each day. I love a good photo collage, so I created a photo collage to go along with each day's spread, using templates from both the Travelers Templates and Travelers Templates #2 kits.

I started out by making a list of my shows, and which day they usually air. I even went into my DVR at one point, to check out my massive list of shows I record, to make sure I didn't miss any. I actually left quite a few of my regular shows off these lists in the end, as there just wasn't room for a few of them.

Next up, I went looking for my images. Just as I did two years ago, I found all of my images on Google photos. For the most part, I just searched the name of the show, along with "cast" or "logo". I downloaded several for each show, knowing that some images might be too small to use.

When I did my 6×8" album two years ago, I used all square photos, since I was using the little 2×2" pocket pages. This time around, I knew I needed lots of square photos, but I also knew I'd have spaces for a few different size photos as well. This came in handy for those shows I could only find a longer image for, that wouldn't have cropped well into a square.

I wanted to have the show name on the image, but there were a few shows that I just couldn't find the right image for. So for a few, I ended up saving an image that I liked, and just typing the show name on in Photoshop, picking a font that was similar to what I saw on other images.

Once I knew how many shows I had for each day, I settled on which template I would use, and added the photos in. I printed out my collages and adhered them to the right side of each day's spread.

I then picked a patterned paper to coordinate with each day's photo collage, and adhered them on the left side of each day's spread. I pulled some papers from Crate Paper, Amy Tangerine, and Shimelle.

I have a bunch of ruled Project Life 3×4" journaling card, so I decided to use those to label each day. I used Kerri's A Big Day and Brooklyn stamps, to stamp the day and "shows" onto the cards. I drew some rough lines around the outside of each card with a black pen, and adhered the card to the left side of the spread.

I originally thought I would need to add more to each of these pages, even wondering what I would do about journaling. I quickly realized that keeping it simple, and fairly flat, in these notebooks was the way to go.

A simple piece of washi tape at the top of the journaling card was all I needed. No need to complicate things, right?

Looks like Friday is a slow night, with only two real shows. But that's ok, because I do love my Lifetime movies on the weekend. You may notice that I don't have a Saturday list. That's because I don't have any shows on Saturday's. That's my night to catch up on all the shows I didn't fit in during the week.

Once I had all of my days completed, I knew I wanted to do some sort of "title page". My thought is that this travelers notebook would be dedicated to documenting my favorite shows, and something I can add to each year. After all, it was fun to look back at my list from two years ago, seeing how many shows I'm still keeping up with, and how many aren't even around anymore.

    KBS_LauraVegas_201617Shows_TN

I added some patterned paper to my title page, along with a 5×7" Project Life ruled card that I stamped the year on using Kerri's Brooklyn Etc stamps. After wracking my brain to see if I had any patterned paper with televisions on it, I remembered a cut file Kerri created as a part of The History Project class.

    KBS_LauraVegas_201617Shows_TN2

I opened up the TV png file in Photoshop, and used it to create my own "patterned paper". I just lined up a bunch of TV's across the 4.25" x 8.25" canvas, and then copied that entire row over and over, down the page. I printed two of these on a sheet of cardstock, so I have one ready to go for next year.

    KBS_LauraVegas_201617Shows_TN16

I also printed out the weekdays cover from the Travelers Pack: Splendid kit, and cut it down to add to the very first page in my notebook. I thought about adding it to the cover of the notebook, but I wasn't quite ready to tackle the cover. I'll worry about that later.

And yes, I fully admit I have a slight TV addiction 😉 I love my shows, and I somehow manage to keep up with them, even though I only watch TV in the evenings. If I'm being totally honest, there's always at least 1-2 shows a season that we let pile up. Right now, it's Quantico, and I have 12 of them on the DVR. That's an easier show to keep up with when you binge watch it, so we'll catch up on that once all our other shows come to an end.
