• I'm back with my final "random project" post of the week. Once I started typing up some of these posts, and remembered what a rambler I can be, I realized I could have broken these down into way more posts and spread them out over several weeks. Not that I don't have more random thoughts I could be sharing. Hope you've enjoyed just a little bit of my random sharing. I'll be back next week with a few new projects 😉

    LV_Albums_BLOG

Late last year, I came across an amazing daily deal on WRMK leather albums at Steals, and couldn't pass it up. I had been wanting to switch out my albums for a long time, as I had been using the American Crafts Modern albums, which are made of chipboard. They were super affordable, and I actually got a huge majority of them on an amazing deal as well, which made them even more affordable. They worked and did their job. But they weren't as sturdy as I would like, once I started thinking long term. I love the quality of WRMK albums, but they're a little pricier. So more of an investment, when you have as many albums as I have. But when you find them at basically 66% off, you don't even think. You just buy. Tell me you'd do the same thing? Please, tell me you would 😉

I switched out a bunch of my albums on that first go-around. I ended up switching my family albums to red, as they used to be in brown albums. This was because I was able to snag more red albums then the brown and black, and I need more albums for the family albums. I then switched the girls albums from red and green, over to black and brown. That's because each time I came across this amazing deal, they only had albums in red, brown, and black. I ended up with a mish-mash of albums, as I only had half of them switched out for several months.

After checking the daily deals at Steals for months and months, the deal on WRMK albums came up again. So I snatched up enough albums to finish switching out all of my family albums, as well as the girls albums. I eventually picked up some green albums as well from Beverly's (using my 50% off coupons when they came around), as they're the only store around that carries these albums. I only needed three, as they were for my own albums.

I still have plenty of other types of albums on my shelves, that may or may not get switched out to the WRMK albums at some point. Or they may stay how they are. Time will tell. I'll have to blog another day about how when I went to switch all of my layouts into these new albums, I actually cleaned out my layouts and got rid of a bunch of them. I mentioned it on Instagram, and I got some strong reactions. Lol. I'll share more about that at some point.

I love the way these albums look on my shelves, and love the labels on the side so that I can easily see what I'm looking for. I downloaded the template for the labels from Cathy Zielske (you can find them HERE) and just love how clean they look.

So, I mentioned the other day that I started a Project Life album this year. Even though I haven't done Project Life since the original Project 365 version came out in 2009, I have still managed to collect quite a few Project Life related products. I have purchased several of the core kits, as well as some of the smaller, mini kits. I'm a big fan of Simple Stories, and have picked up a lot of their SNAP packs over the years. I also picked up several of the Documenter kits from Studio Calico during an amazing sale. Basically, I had a very random collection of 3×4" and 4×6" cards from multiple manufacturers.

One weekend, I took out every pocket page type product I could think of, and corralled it into one location. The only thing that I didn't take out was some Candid Card sets from Bella Blvd (they have several sets with the 3×4" and 4×6" cards), or any of the 12×12" patterned papers that have cards you can trim apart. Then I got to work getting them organized and finding a good home for them.

    IMG_4936_BLOG   IMG_4937_BLOG

I knew where I would store my 3×4" cards, as I had purchased a few of these wooden trays at TJ Maxx a few years ago. I actually have one tray that holds all of my enamel dots, and the other has been sitting empty on my shelf all this time. The 3×4" cards fit perfectly in the slots. I made some dividers from white cardstock, and used a label punch to create tabs from white cardstock as well. I stapled them to the top of the divider using my Tiny Attacher, and just used a pen to write what was what on the labels.

I know some sort their cards by color, but I can't do that. I like to keep things by manufacturer, and sometimes, I even sort by collection/theme, within each manufacturer. I had some cards that came in pads, so I carefully removed each card from the pad, as I wanted all of the cards loose and easy to go thru. As I went thru the Project Life core kits, I took the time to put aside any of the cards that I knew I wouldn't use. The core kits give you SOOO many of each card, and there were definitely ones that I knew I wouldn't use that often, or ones that I just knew I wouldn't use at all.

For the 4×6" cards, I remembered a storage tip I had seen ages ago on Instragram. They had used one of the IRIS photo & craft keepers (like this one HERE) to hold their Project Life cards, and I screenshotted the idea so that I would remember it. I had two of these containers that I've had forever, and one was completely empty. The one I show in the image above holds twelve of the smaller containers (they each hold 4×6" photos/cards), but I did end up switching to the larger one that holds eighteen I believe.

I also kept the 4×6" cards organized by manufacturer. Some might have 2, 3, 4, or even more of the containers, like actual Project Life cards, Simple Stories, etc. I have some of the Simple Stories sets that also have 2×2" and 3×3" cards, so these went into these containers along with their coordinating 4×6" cards.

Both the IRIS container and the wooden tray slip into one cube on my Expedit shelf in my scrap room. The wooden tray sits right on top of the container. When I go to work on my album, I just pull both out and carry them out into the other room to spread out on my big scrap island.

Last, but not least, another random project that I worked on recently, was re-painting my scrapbook room. I started out with my scrap space in the downstairs bedroom when we moved into this house, almost 15 years ago. Then, about 5 years later, I moved my space into the upstairs loft area (you can see some of that HERE). A few years later, I made the smart decision to move back downstairs, and into the bedroom again. I just went to find where I blogged about that (seen HERE) and was surprised to see that was in 2009. I remember thinking while moving back to the bedroom that I really, really wanted to re-paint it. But I didn't want to take the time to do it, and figured I would get to it at some point down the road.

Well, seven years later I was finally motivated to paint it. When I was first in this room, the walls were this great light sage green. When I moved my scrap space upstairs, we turned the room into a sort of "hang out" room for the girls, and I painted it this light aqua color. It's not bad. But I knew it wasn't what I wanted in my scrap room, once I moved back down. I knew right away I wanted to go back to some sort of green.

    LV_Paint3   LV_Paint4

It was a ton of work, with it being such a small bedroom and having some large pieces of furniture (the desk won't even fit out the door), and lots of scrap stuff shoved in that room. But, I also had a good plan on how to do it in three stages, so that while it was a lot of work – it also wasn't too much work. It did involve me moving everything from one of my Expedit shelves into the playroom, and all of the random things like my white storage cubes, everything from my desk, everything stored on top of the Expedit shelves, etc. But from there, I was able to work around the two Expedit shelves, moving everything from one shelf to the empty shelf and then back again, and shifting the desk around the room as I went.

I love the new color. It's "Fresh Artichoke" by Behr. The choice was made pretty simple for me, as there wasn't that many good greens to choose from. At least not in the brand of paint I was looking at. It's a tad bit darker than I would have liked, but it's also a great shade of green. Oddly similar to the green I have on some walls in the rest of the downstairs.

  • Welcome back to another post about random projects I've been working on this year. You could say that I'm a weekend organizer. I don't usually have the time (it's more like I don't have the energy) to do much during the work week, so the weekend is when I tackle things full speed. And Saturday's are days when I like to be creative in some way, even if it's just organizing things that pertain to my creative life. While I love to scrap, creating actual layouts and such – I love to dive into projects where I'm organizing "stuff" that pertains to memory keeping.

    IMG_3478_BLOG    Photo Jul 13, 7 06 33 PM_BLOG

I have this box on one of the shelves upstairs that is sort of a catch-all basket. Years and years ago, back in 2009, I sorted out some of the random items and created homes for these items with some fun envelopes I had from a kit. You can see and read about those HERE. I still had a massive amount of random stuff that had accumulated in that box. The majority of it was handmade cards from the girls, for Joe and I's birthdays, Mother's Day, and Father's Day. So I set out to tackle those items, and the small amount of stuff left is set aside for another day.

I'm pretty sure it took me a while to remember that I had made those cute folders years ago, and to remember that I still had plenty of them left to work with. When it finally crossed my mind, I knew it was a simple solution. I sorted out the cards into four piles – birthday cards for me, Mother's Day cards for me, birthday cards for Joe, and Father's Day cards for Joe. I pulled out four of the envelopes and this time around, I decorated them super simple and super quick. I didn't over-think this at all. I literally added some chipboard alphas and alpha stickers to each, to describe what was inside. I tucked all of the cards into their envelopes and added a few binder clips to the top of each to hold them closed.

    IMG_4651_BLOG

Something else that I decided to tackle one weekend was photos. Printed photos to be exact. I've had a few boxes of photos in my closet for years, and I would occasionally toss random photos in them. A huge majority of them were film photos, as I didn't go digital until 2006 I believe. So the first 10 years of Alyssa's life and the first 7 years of Sarah's life were captured on film. Those were semi-sorted and organized by year inside the boxes.

The problem was, I also had photos in other random places. I have lots of digital photos that I've had printed at one point. I have lots of photos that I have printed at home, thinking I would use them on a project, and then not needing them after all, so I shove them in a drawer. I also had a photo album or two that had photos slipped inside from when the girls were little. I've never kept my photos in actual photo albums like that, but I must have tried it out at some point. All I wanted to do was to get ALL of the photos corralled and organized in one central location.

    IMG_4657_BLOG   IMG_4663_BLOG

Since I had a lot of photos organized by year, I started by laying them out on the floor, making a pile for each year. I had a piece of paper on the bottom of each pile, with the year showing, so that I could keep track of which pile went to which year. Then I got to work on the photos I had pulled out of the photo albums, sorting those into the correct year. While having the date the photo was taken printed on the actual photo bothers me when scrapping them, it definitely comes in handy when trying to figure out what year they came from. And most from albums were from my film days, so they had the dates.

Then I pulled out any other photos I had stashed away in random places. These were a little trickier, since they were mostly from my digital photos. I pulled out my laptop and my external hard drive so that I had easy access to my massive amounts of photos. I keep them all organized by year, and then by month within each year, on my external hard drive. Some of the photos were easy to figure out, as I could open up a year and get a good idea of what photos were taken around that same time. Some of them, I had to do some digging, looking thru folder after folder to find when they were taken.

In the end, I had every single printed photo in my possession organized by year. From there, I made new dividers for my boxes, making them tall enough that I could add any 5×7" photos in along with all of the 4×6" photos. Most of them are organized by year, but I also had some photos that were in small plastic boxes, for certain events and such. I had a small box with any photos from Alyssa's school days, Sarah's school days, a few boxes with Christmas photos from a few years, a box with photos of our house when it was being built, etc. i wanted to keep those all separate, so one of the four boxes is organized by event or theme.

    IMG_3468_BLOG   Photo Jul 13, 9 49 08 PM_BLOG

This one is kind of random. But I guess all of these are kind of random. These are my binders that hold all of my publications. I know when I first started having projects published in magazines, I would save the entire magazine. But after a while, those magazines pile up and I knew there was no way that I wanted to keep them all, or even needed to keep them all. So at some point, I started saving only what I needed to save from the magazines I was published in. I always tore off the cover of the issue, and then I would carefully tear out any pages inside the issue that had my projects on them. That was all I needed to keep.

From there, I would adhere these pages to cheap, plain, white cardstock and then slip them into page protectors. There were only a few magazines that were actual 8.5×11" in size, so most of them needed to be added to the white cardstock to fill the protector. I kept them all in order within the binders, so I adhered pages to the front and the backs of the cardstock.

I still had some magazines laying around that I had never gotten around to going thru and/or tearing out my projects from within the pages of the issues. So a few months back, I took the time to finish going thru everything left that contained a published project of mine. And I worked them all into these binders. I love that I can easily look thru these three binders, and see every project I've ever had published in the last 12 years. Well, with the exception of one. Still kills me that there is ONE lone project where I didn't get a copy of the issue, and there's a spot for it with a post it note within the binder.

  • I'm back to share another random project that I've been working on this year. Way back in 2009, there was this thing called "Project 365" that came out as a kit thru Creating Keepsakes magazine. I purchased the kit and did pretty well at keeping up with the photo-a-day concept for a full year. This concept then turned into Project Life the following year, and while I love to see what others do with it and I follow Becky Higgins and watch everything she comes out with, I never got into it after that one year.

    Laura_PL_Prep

The biggest reason that I used to give for NOT doing Project Life again, was that over the last 4-5 years, I was taking less and less photos. With the girls being older, I just didn't take out my camera much, knowing that they wouldn't want me pointing it at them. I pretty much stopped using my camera for anything other than taking photos of projects to be honest. And since I work from home, while I certainly can take photos, they all end up looking pretty much the same at some point. Nothing too exciting going on here.

But about a week or two into this year, I started thinking about it more and more, and I decided that I was going to work on a Project Life album this year. I realized how many photos I take with my phone, and I wanted to be able to do something more with them, since they don't often make it onto layouts. I wanted this album to give a fairly decent look at our lives. When I did that first Project 365 album, I went into it knowing that I didn't want to include the daycare kids at all. This time, it was different. They are a huge part of my life, and since I take care of these kids in our home, it made sense to include glimpses of them here and there.

    Laura_PL_Prep1   Laura_PL_Prep6

I also take lots of photos of scrap related stuff, and I wanted to include glimpses into that part of my life. I try and capture little pieces of life here and there on my phone, and I wanted to include those as well. And as for getting my girls into the album? Well, I decided that I would include them in this project, by asking them to send me a handful of photos each month. While they may not let me near them with my camera that often (I do sneak photos when I can), they take plenty of photos on their phones, and it adds their perspective into the album, which is nice.

    Laura_PL_Prep2   Laura_PL_Prep3

So what is my process so far? Well, I came up with a plan to order my photos at the end of each month. I've mentioned before that I've been using the FreePrints app on my phone to order photos (you can read more HERE). At the end of each month, I go thru the photos on my phone, and edit any that didn't get edited. I ask both of the girls to send me photos, and one of them is super prompt at sending them right over, while the other usually needs 3-17 reminders ;)

I know that when it comes to the pocket pages, I'm working with mostly 3×4" photos, 4×4" photos, and a handful of 4×6" photos. Since I'm not great at knowing exactly what size I'll want each photo in, I tend to go a little crazy, and I'll actually order most of the photos in 2-3 sizes. Options are good, right? Extras are good, right? I use the Project Life app on my phone to combine two 3×4" pics on a 4×6" print. Super easy to do.

    Laura_PL_Prep4   Laura_PL_Prep5

Once my photos arrive, I trim up any that need trimming. The prints that have two 3×4" pics get trimmed into two photos. The prints that have a 4×4" pic get the excess trimmed away. You can sort of see in the photo on the left where one photo might be printed 2-3 ways. I might print a photo as a 3×4", a 4×4", and a 4×6", now knowing exactly what size I'll want to use. I thought I would get better at figuring it out after a few months, but I haven't. So I just order away, and save the extras for other projects.

I sort out the photos, keeping the duplicate photos together. Then I use my phone to help me sort them out into the different weeks of the month. I love that the phone tells me the date the photos were taken. So convenient. I have five envelopes that I keep handy, since each month has 4-5 weeks, depending on how the dates fell. I sort them into the right week, and then I'm ready to work them into the album.

    Laura_PL_Prep8   Laura_PL_Prep9

So, the album. I decided that I wanted to do a 9×12" album for my Project Life album. But rather than purchase an actual 9×12 album, I am using a 12×12" American Crafts Modern album that I had my mom cut down to 9×12" on her table saw. I have gobs and gobs of divided page protectors in the 12×12" size, and there are so many that can be easily trimmed down to work into a 9×12" album. They're not all 9" wide. I have some protectors that are 6×12", some that are 8×12", and some that are 7×12". I like having the pages staggered in widths, and I love using up protectors that I've had around for years.

I work an entire month of photos into the album at one time. I take out my album, and bunches of page protectors. I have already trimmed down a lot of the protectors that I know I'll use a lot. So I have a stack in the album all ready to go. I pick one pocket that I'll add the week number into, and I slip a sticky note with the week so I don't lose track. Then I simply take out my photos for the week, pick out the pocket pages that will best fit them, and slip my photos in. I leave empty pockets that I will then add cards and journaling into.

    Laura_PL_Prep11   Laura_PL_Prep10

Usually a week later (I do most of this on the weekends), I'll do the cards. This part takes me a while, and I have to really spread out. I pull out all of my Project Life cards that I've accumulated (more about those in my next blog post), and I go at it one week at a time. While some weeks come together easily, there are always those weeks that take forever and a day to put together. I know that I could pull from my patterned papers and such for these pockets as well, but I have stuck to just using Project Life cards so far. My head can't wrap itself around too many choices for this project right now. Lol.

I aim to get a good card for the week number. A "title" card of sorts for the week. I look to add a more decorative card to each page, meaning a card that is good as-is, and doesn't need anything added to it. I add lots of cards that will work for adding my journaling, knowing that I'll also most likely add some text of some sort directly to some photos that don't need a lot of journaling. I'm going about this album in my true style. Simple and easy. I don't want a lot of fluff in this album, as much as I love to see others do it. I don't want it to be too involved, where it just takes too much time and I give up. Photos and cards. Simple and easy.

Soooooo. That's my process so far. Order photos once a month, work them into the album once a month, and add in the cards once a month. I've kept this up for six months so far. Ok, truth be told, I just got my June photos in the mail this evening, so those will be worked into the album by this coming weekend.

That is where I've left off though. I don't have a single week totally finished. I still need to add the weeks. I still need to add journaling and details. I haven't done that for any given week yet. But I'm not that worried about it. The majority of these photos came from my Instagram, and even the photos from the girls are easy to get info for. I feel super accomplished just looking at what I've put together so far this year, and I know I will get around to finishing up the rest of the details. And I'll share when I do have completed weeks to share.

  • Hey all! Sooo. I feel like the only time I blog anymore is when I have a completed project to share. Let's be honest. That IS the only time I seem to blog these days. I don't scrap nearly as much as I used too, so I usually have four guaranteed projects a month to share, with the projects I do monthly for Bella Blvd and Kerri Bradford.

Yet, there are always lots of other projects that I'm working on here and there. A lot of them are ones that I share bits and pieces of on Instagram, if you were to follow me there. They may not be actual layouts or cards. But there are lots of scrap related projects that I've been doing. Since I don't have any new projects to share this week, I thought I would take some time to share some of the random projects I've been working on this year.

    IMG_3692_BLOG

First up, unfinished albums. I'm the queen of unfinished projects, and I have plenty of unfinished albums that have been begging for my attention. I think I shared these on Instagram back in February. These four albums above are the main ones that I was hoping to get around to working on.

    IMG_3701_BLOG   IMG_3702_BLOG

Left: This first album is a 6×8" Simple Stories album that I started well over two years ago. I wanted to put together an album with all of the band photos Alyssa had captured over her four years of high school. I've blogged a bit about this album, and how I was going about putting it together (blog posts HERE and HERE). I was on such a roll with the photo printing part of this album, which was the biggest part, since it's going to be very photo heavy. I was actually on track to have it done before Alyssa graduated. Well, then life happened. And she graduated. And it's now been two years and I haven't finished it. I really, really want to get this one done.

Right: This second album is also a 6×8" Simple Stories album. I think I started this one about 9-10 months ago. I had this idea to make an album that held all of the photos from my scrapping travels. This would be trips I've taken to attend CHA, and to teach at CKC's and CKU's. I might even include two other trips. My trip to Utah years ago, after winning a trip from Creating Keepsakes Magazine for their Golden Ticket contest, and my trip down south several years ago to film an infomercial for Making Memories. I had all of my photos printed, and they're all in the album, along with my tradeshow and teaching badges. And then I never went back to it. I need to go back to it.

    IMG_3700_BLOG   IMG_3699_BLOG

Left: Next up, another 6×8" Simple Stories album. A little over a year ago, I started on an All About Me album that I had been wanting to do for a while. I actually have quite a lot of full layouts in my albums, that share little glimpses into pieces of me. But I wanted to create a smaller album that would give a good look at me, at a specific time in my life. Things change from year to year, and I wanted to capture myself in one moment, so to speak. I created two spreads for this album, and they can be seen HERE. I did actually start two more spreads, but never got around to finishing them. Or doing anything else in this album. Something else I need to get back too.

Right: This is one album project that I can say I actually finished. This is an 8.5×11" American Crafts album, documenting my own school years. I had collected school photos, class photos, report cards, awards, certificates, etc over the years, and had kept them pretty organized and in one spot. Earlier this year, I got super motivated and decided this was one album that I wanted to focus on. I shouldn't say it's fully finished, because I still have a few things left to do. You can read more about the album, and what I have left to do, right HERE.

    IMG_3472_BLOG   Photo Jul 10, 11 08 03 PM_BLOG

Left: My girl's school albums. These are on-going album projects, that it seems I'm always working on. Heck, Alyssa graduated two years ago, and I still find things that I need to add into her albums. Sarah is going into her senior year of high school this year, which means I need to get everything from 11th grade added into her album. I have shared lots about these school albums, and the system I have set up, over the years. You can find all of the posts HERE – just ignore the first two posts that show up, since those were about my own school album that I mentioned earlier.

Right: This is actually something new that I've been working on. Well, not totally new. I've had sports albums for each of the girls set up for years. But they're very basic. For the most part, they hold their soccer photos (and some softball mixed in), team photos, and newspaper clippings. A few years have some pocket pages filled with photos. And if I've created any actual layouts, they're in there as well. I've always had intentions of creating full coverage albums. Adding in all of the photos that are just sitting on my external hard drive, doing a little something more creative with the newspaper clippings than just slipping them in a page protector, and just making it more organized and complete overall. Well, I have recently started on this project, and have been sorting thru photos and getting tons of them ready to order. Right now, I have everything in 12×12" albums. But I recently picked up a few 9×12" albums from an awesome sale at Studio Calico, and I think they'll be perfect for this project.

  • So, funny story to the making of this month's project sheet for Bella Blvd. Usually, I'm given a specific that I'm supposed to work with, and  some sort of "challenge" to incorporate into the design. Well, for the July project sheet, I was told I could use whatever I wanted. Knowing that the project sheet would be going up on the blog on the 4th of July, I had plans of doing a patriotic layout of some kind.

I did my best to dig out some navy blue, red, and grey patterned paper and got started on a creative star background for the page. I had photos printed, matted on patterned paper, title done and adhere, and even did some machine stitching. And then? I threw it in the trash. I hated it, and after showing it to a friend that said "I don't love it", I decided it needed to go.

    LauraVegas_SummertimeFun

I decided to start all over, and pulled out the Fresh Market collection, thinking that would make for a great summery layout. These are actually photos from Sarah's birthday party years ago, but I pulled out photos specifically of the family members that were there that day to use on this page. I had a basic page design in mind, and knew I wanted to use small square photos, so I printed out eight photos as 2.5 x 2.5" squares.

    LauraVegas_SummertimeFun_detail1

I had this vision of doing three rows of photos, with three main patterned paper strips, and then adding borders and other thin strips of patterned paper between the rows. I also knew that I wanted to use several strips of the black and white dotted patterned paper, as it's a favorite of mine. I happen to love the fruit slice patterned papers in this collection. I'm going with "fruit slice", since the orange slice patterned paper shown above also comes in yellow (lemon slice?), and there's a strip of it in green (lime slice?) on the Borders patterned paper.

    LauraVegas_SummertimeFun_detail5

So I knew that I would use the orange and yellow fruit slice patterned papers as two of my main paper strips – the ones where my photos would go.

    LauraVegas_SummertimeFun_detail4

For my third main patterned paper strip, I decided to go with the aqua scalloped lines paper. I added in a few strips of the black and white dotted patterned paper, and a few border strips, in between each row.

    LauraVegas_SummertimeFun_detail3

I arranged my photos along my three rows of patterned paper, and then adhered them, tucking the top or bottom edge of the photos under the thin patterned paper strips. Grounding them in a sense. I used the "Summertime Fun" 3×4" card from the Daily Details patterned paper for my title.

    LauraVegas_SummertimeFun_detail2

Along with my 2.5 x 2.5" photos, I also cut out several of the 2 x 2" squares from one of the patterned papers to add into the mix as well. I machine stitched around the edges of each little card, and distressed the edges, before adhering them along with my photos.

To embellish the page, I added some white chipboard hearts, black enamel dots, and a few stickers.

  • This week and next, over on the Bella Blvd blog, we're revealing our new Summer 2016 collections and products. There are five new Bella collections, three new Illustrated Faith collections, and a new release of Illustrated Faith basics as well. I’ll be sharing peeks at these collections here as well, along with some layouts that I created for the catalog.

Today, we are revealing two new Christmas collections – a Bella collection called Holly Jolly Christmas (which you can find on this morning's post on the Bella blog), and an Illustrated Faith collection called CHRISTmas. I'm pretty sure that Bella has had a new Christmas collection every single year. While they are always fun collections, for me personally, they have never really worked with my own Christmas photos. So when I saw the new Illustrated Faith CHRISTmas collection, I was really excited to see a collection that would work so perfectly with my photos.

    LauraVegas_ChristmasMemories

I got to work with the IF CHRISTmas collection for one of my catalog layouts, so I pulled out photos of my girls from this last Christmas. I printed them as 3×4" photos, knowing that I wanted to arrange them across the page, along with a 3×4" card from the Daily Details patterned paper.

    LauraVegas_ChristmasMemories_detail1

I love when there are patterns in a collection that make great backgrounds. This heart patterned paper, with randomly colored in hearts, is a great example. With the black hearts on white, it's still a good subtle pattern that allows the other patterned papers and photos to stand out.

    LauraVegas_ChristmasMemories_detail2

I matted my photos with the red dotted patterned paper, and added the "Joy to the World" 3×4" card to a piece of the black and white dotted patterned paper. As I usually do, I distressed the edges of all of my patterned papers, and machine stitched around each one before layering them together.

    LauraVegas_ChristmasMemories_detail3

Just like on my other catalog layouts, I used a mix of alpha stickers from the new Fundamentals sticker sheet and a Ciao Chip Script chipboard word for my title. I did add in a piece of yellow patterned paper from one of the older Illustrated Faith collections, since I needed some yellow paper to tie in with the embellishments from the collection.

    LauraVegas_ChristmasMemories_detail4

To embellish the page, I added some die cuts from the Paper Pieces package, a few tabs from the Tabbies package, and even a few stickers. I finished it off with some black enamel stars.

Today, we are revealing the new Oh My Stars collection, along with a new Spooktacular collection for Halloween (which you can find on the Bella blog from earlier today). The Oh My Stars collection is a new basics collection. What I love about these collections is that you get one great pattern, in all of the colors Bella is known for. And I could not be more excited to have a large variety of star patterned papers coming out, as they can really go with just about any theme or subject matter.

    LauraVegas_BB_LoveYou

I got to work with the Oh My Stars collection for a catalog layout. There are so many colors to choose from within the collection, so I had to narrow down my choices for printing purposes. I knew the white plus-sign patterned paper would make a great background paper, and from there I picked out some of the star patterns, along with a few tone-on-tone patterns, in navy blue, aqua, yellow, green, and blacks.

    LauraVegas_BB_LoveYou_detail1

I had the idea to create square blocks of layered papers/photos, in order to work lots of different patterned papers onto the page. I printed out a few old photos of Sarah, as I thought the blue and green in the photos worked perfectly for this page. From there, I cut little blocks from all of my patterned papers, in two different sizes.

    LauraVegas_BB_LoveYou_detail2

Then I just started playing with the papers, trying out different layering options, and placement on the page, to get a color combination that I liked. This took way longer than it should have. I love to over think things, to the point of it being a little ridiculous. I also pulled out the Tabbies package (actually mock up product, so a piece of paper that I cut them out of) and found a coordinating tab to add to each layered square.

    LauraVegas_BB_LoveYou_detail3

I distressed the edges of each and every square of patterned paper, and then machine stitched around the edges. I did all of the machine stitching on these before I layered them together. I adhered the bottom patterned paper directly to the page, and then adhered the smaller square of patterned paper using pop dots.

    LauraVegas_BB_LoveYou_detail4

I printed out my journaling to add to one of the layered squares and trimmed down a 3×4" card from the Daily Details paper to fit another layered square. Luckily, trimming it down still kept the design in tact. Whew. I had pulled out one of the Caio Chip script sets, and pulled a chipboard word out to add to another layered square, and realized that the little plus signs fit perfectly over the x's on the "I Love You More" card, so I added a few of those on there.

    LauraVegas_BB_LoveYou_detail5

I also used some of the stars from the Paper Pieces die cut package to embellish the page. I lucked out, and was able to find enough in the colors I was using on the page, and added them to the top and bottom of the page. A few white star enamels finished them off.

    LauraVegas_BB_LoveYou_detail6

For my title, I used the "Love You" letters found in the Paper Pieces die cut package. I just love the fun font on the letters.

Along with revealing the new Addison collection yesterday, we also revealed the new Alex collection. This collection is geared towards teen boys, but just like the Addison collection, this collection can definitely work for boys of all ages.

    LauraVegas_AlwaysWithHisTunes

I worked with the Alex collection for one of the catalog layouts. Since I don't have boys of my own, I asked the talented Kelly Goree if I could borrow some photos of one of her boys. I mentioned that some of the pieces I had picked out to have printed had a music theme to them, and she came back with these fun photos of her youngest son.

    LauraVegas_AlwaysWithHisTunes_detail1

My plans for this layout started with the fun headphone patterned paper, the 3×4" "Rock Out" card from the Daily Details patterned paper, and the music notes from the Paper Pieces die cut package. I also knew that the grey arrow patterned paper would make a good background for the center of the page where I knew my photos would go.

    LauraVegas_AlwaysWithHisTunes_detail4

I also love this painted patterned paper, with the navy blue, aqua, and white. Once again, I used a mix of Chia Chip script words and the alpha stickers from the new sticker sheet for my title, mixed with a few Tiny Text alpha stickers. Because the grey alpha stickers didn't really stand out as much as I'd like (I tried them against all of the papers), I outlined them with a black pen.

    LauraVegas_AlwaysWithHisTunes_detail5

I had my photos adhered, along with the "Rock Out" card, across the grey arrow patterned paper. But then I spent pretty much forever and a day trying to figure out how to add the music notes to the page. I tried so many combinations, and none of them looked right to me. It wasn't until I pulled out my enamel dots and started sprinkling those across that center part of the page, and adding in the music notes, that I was finally happy with it.

    LauraVegas_AlwaysWithHisTunes_detail2

One of the new products in the new collections are the Tabbies. A package full of tabs! There has always been a few tabs on the sticker sheets, and in the Paper Pieces package, but I love that we'll have a full package of them to work with now. I picked out several of them to add to the tops of each patterned paper strip in the upper corner of the page.

First up, is the new Addison collection. It's a collection geared towards teen girls, but could honestly be used for girls of all ages. There's some new products worked into all of the new collections that you'll want to check out. In addition to patterned papers, stickers, and die cut Paper Pieces, there are now Tabbies, Designer Clips, Washi Stickers, and a 6×8" paper pad that I think is going to be awesome for smaller projects.

    LauraVegas_HelloSassyGirl

I created a layout with the Addison collection for the catalog, and ended up using some photos I took of a friend's daughter forever ago (she was only one of my first daycare kiddos 14 years ago). I have plenty of photos of my own girls, but there was something about these photos of Alison that caught my eye. That sassy look in her eyes said "pick me for your layout", so I did 🙂

    LauraVegas_HelloSassyGirl_detail1

I think I've mentioned this before, but when doing catalog layouts, we are almost always working with mock up product. So we pick what papers we want the office to print out for us, hopefully having some sort of idea what we'll do with the pieces we picked. I knew right away that I wanted to use the feather patterned paper, and also the blue and black gingham patterned paper.

    LauraVegas_HelloSassyGirl_detail2

From there, I also picked out the black and white polka dot, because I knew it would really pop against the other papers. For whatever reason, I only asked them to print me half a sheet of the black and white polka dot, and it wasn't big enough to mat under the photos and the pink patterned paper. So I had to get creative. I cut it up into smaller blocks of paper, machine stitched around the edges of each one, and then layered them under the pink patterned paper. So a little paper went a long ways.

    LauraVegas_HelloSassyGirl_detail4

For my title, I used one of the Ciao Chip script words, along with some alpha stickers from the new sticker sheet. Because I had to fussy cut those alphas from a sheet of paper (mock up = no stickers, just paper), there was no way I could get the center of the letters to cut out nicely. So I added the enamel dots to the centers.

Hey all! I had a new layout go up at Kerri Bradford Studio a few days ago, and am finally sitting down to share it here too.

As crazy as it is to say this, my youngest daughter Sarah just got her drivers license. I can't believe my baby is out on the road. By herself. Without me. Eek. Anyways. I knew I had to document the moment, as it took her quite a bit longer then planned to be ready for that drivers test. I had taken quite a few photos over the last year and a half of her driving (while parked, at red lights, or at train stops – always safe!), along with a few photos of her taking her required paid driving lessons. I picked out five photos to use, and printed them as 4×4" pics.

    KBS_LauraVegas_FinallyLicensed_detail1

Because I had so many photos, I went with a white on white background for the rest of the page, incorporating a circle die cut background from Kerri's Background Basics kit into the base of my page. I added in very small amounts of patterned paper, with a few thin strips along the photos, and then using it for my title pieces as well.

    KBS_LauraVegas_FinallyLicensed_detail3

For my title, I picked out a fun brush script word from Kerri's Grammar School: The Adverbs kit to pair with the chunky letters from the Weathered Door Alpha kit. I originally cut the word "finally" from a blue patterned paper, but quickly realized that it would look so much better cut from cardstock instead.

    KBS_LauraVegas_FinallyLicensed_detail2

I kept the design pretty simple, turning to a favorite page design that I've used before when using lots of 4×4" photos (seen HERE). I pretty much lifted the entire design, and that's ok. No need to reinvent the wheel over and over 😉
