Hey everyone. I'm popping in to share a quick look at another travelers notebook sized layout that I created for Kerri Bradford Studio

    LauraVegas_KBS_YesThisMatters2

I felt like this first page needed a little something added to it. There was a little too much empty white space for my liking. So I pulled out Kerri's Inked stamp set and stamped on a few ink blotches – both in the upper corner on the white cardstock, and down below on the green patterned paper.

    LauraVegas_KBS_YesThisMatters4

I stacked three different stamps from Kerri's new Blocks of Headlines stamp set, stamping them onto a white tag that was in my stash.

    LauraVegas_KBS_YesThisMatters3

I wanted to add a touch of blue to the first page, to tie in with the blue towels in my laundry basket, so I used one of Kerri's Borderlines stamps above my green patterned paper.

Hey all! It's been a while since I've created any little travelers notebook sized layouts to add to my Life Crafted album (from Citrus Twist). I'm still new to creating these smaller sized spreads, but I really do love how easy they work for documenting little stories in a quick and easy way.

When I sat down to create my next project for Kerri Bradford Studio, I figured it was the perfect opportunity to create a few of these little spreads. For my first layout, I printed out a photo I took while reading one morning. I printed it as a full page photo, which for TN's, is about 4.2" x 8.25".

    LauraVegas_KBS_LovingThisMoment3

I picked out this gorgeous floral patterned paper from a Dear Lizzy collection for the right side of the spread, and added my journaling before moving on to the stamping.

    LauraVegas_KBS_LovingThisMoment2

I picked out several stamps from Kerri's new Iconic stamp set – the books, coffee cup, and glasses – and stamped each one onto a colored metal rimmed tag. I've had these Making Memories tags in my stash forever, and they matched up perfectly with my patterned paper. I also added the "loving this moment" stamp from the new Block of Headlines stamp set and "today" from the All The Time stamp set.

I'll be back tomorrow to share another TN sized spread with you 😉

  • I'm still loving Project Life, and find that it's the perfect fit for where my little family is at this point in life. It is the perfect solution for the random photos that we end up with, and the random little stories that go with them.

This year, I'm continuing with the 9×12" size, but am switching things up a bit, going with a monthly format rather than a weekly format. In 2019, I found that I ended up with lots of weeks that didn't have many photos – and lots of weeks with too many photos. I always made it work, so it wasn't a huge issue. But my thinking, with moving to a monthly format, is that it will be an easier way to make the amount of photos for the month work, by simply using however many pages I need to fit the photos/stories in.

    LauraVegas_PL2020_1_January1

I am not going to limit myself to just one or two spreads per month. I don't like to narrow down our photos too much. Since Project Life is my main way of documenting these days (I just don't do too many individual layouts anymore), I like to include as many photos/stories as I can within the album. For the month of January, I ended up with 5 spreads, one of which included a 6×12" insert.

    LauraVegas_PL2020_1_January2

I have a lot of the Stories By The Month digital kits from Ali Edwards, which is where I pulled the "January Memories" card from. I have these cards for each month, and will try to use them. Just hoping the colors of the cards coordinate each month 😉

    LauraVegas_PL2020_1_January3

I skipped adding embellishments of any kind to my 2018 and 2019 albums, after using lots of embellishments/stickers in my 2017 album. I'm not necessarily going to set out to add embellishments – but if I feel like adding a little something here and there, I'll do it. Kind of winging it for the 2020 album, as far as extras/embellishing goes.

    LauraVegas_PL2020_1_January4

I am excited to go back to my individual journaling cards, since I skipped those in my 2019 album (I ended up going with a large 4×11" journaling card for each week). I do all of my journaling cards digitally, typing them up in Photoshop and printing them out on matte presentation paper.

    LauraVegas_PL2020_1_January5

I'm using the same 9×12" albums from Seven Paper (an off brand of Studio Calico several years ago) that I stocked up on years ago on a deals website. I have a huge collection of pocket pages for these albums, and one of the page configurations has the twelve 3×3" pockets. I have used these pages in other album projects, but I have never used them in my Project Life album.

    LauraVegas_PL2020_1_January6

I think the reason I haven't used them in the Project Life albums, is because if I used one for one week – I would have no choice but to use it for the following week as well. I love little square photos, so I'm excited to use them this year.

    LauraVegas_PL2020_1_January7

My plan is to use one of the 3×3" pocket pages each month. If for some reason I find that another one would work well, I will use two for that month. But I'll start out with working at least one into each month.

This second spread for the month of January, seen above, has a 6×12" insert on the right side.

    LauraVegas_PL2020_1_January8

I'm also keeping a lot of my digital journaling cards simple. I used to use this one card a lot – it had lines on it, and empty space on the top where I would add a digital stamp or something. Except that to type on those lines meant that I had to do a separate layer in Photoshop for each line. Much harder to do journaling that way.

    LauraVegas_PL2020_1_January9

I'm simply typing up my journaling on 3×3" or 3×4" canvases in Photoshop, and then adding digital stamps along the top/bottom of the cards. I might even get crazy at some point, and use actual physical stamps. Lol. But my collection of digital stamps is huge and they're so easy to add and size to what I need.

    LauraVegas_PL2020_1_January10

    LauraVegas_PL2020_1_January11

I will also be using some of the digital journaling cards that I used in my previous Project Life albums. My go-to cards come mostly from Ali Edwards, Cathy Zielske, and In A Creative Bubble.

    LauraVegas_PL2020_1_January12

I also decided to simplify my font choices for the year. I'm using one main journaling font, which is Rad Notebook by Rad & Happy. I also have two other fonts that I use here and there, mostly for when I add a date or something to the bottom of a journaling card.

    LauraVegas_PL2020_1_January13

Here's the third spread of the month, with the 6×12" insert on the left.

    LauraVegas_PL2020_1_January14

    LauraVegas_PL2020_1_January15

I still screenshot any Snapchat photos that my girls send me. Since I like to have some sort of journaling for most of the photos I include, it's nice when the Snapchat itself includes the journaling.

    LauraVegas_PL2020_1_January16

I still have a huge selection of filler cards that I have printed off the Project Life app, so I usually go through those first to see what will work.

    LauraVegas_PL2020_1_January17

I've also printed some filler cards from digital kits that I have, like the one above (I add the "must see TV' digital stamp to the TV on the card). And no, the This Is Us photo isn't MY phone screensaver. Lol. They shared it on their Instagram account, and I screenshot it, thinking it would be fun to use in my album.

    LauraVegas_PL2020_1_January18

A new thing that I wanted to do for our 2020 album is to include a "currently" card for each of us, each month. I'm not completely sure if I'll use the same card each month. The one above was found in one of my digital kits. I typed mine up first, printed it out and added it to the album. It wasn't until I typed up the girl's cards that I realized I needed a way to label them, so that we know who each of the cards goes too.

I ended up working these cards into the album, so that they sort of go side by side with our photos. My card is near one of my selfies. Sarah's card is next to one of her Snapchat photos. Etc, etc. For now, I went in and typed our names in the little TV at the top of the card. It's not the best solution, but it works for now. I can always change them later, or maybe I'll make us each a personalized card that I can use each month.

    LauraVegas_PL2020_1_January19

While I stuck to using filler cards straight from the Project Life app for the past two years, I'm just winging it this year. The card above is one I had from a kit club – while I don't belong to any kit clubs, and never have, I had picked up some PL cards on a big sale a few years ago from one of the sites. I still have older PL cards with rounded corners, and may or may not use any of those. I used them in my 2017 album, and the rounded corners didn't bother me. But I feel like they'd bug me now. Lol.

    LauraVegas_PL2020_1_January20

Here's the fourth spread for the month of January.

    LauraVegas_PL2020_1_January21

It did take some thinking to figure out how I would work my photos into a monthly format, when I first sat down to put these pages together. I laid out all of the photos for the month. I still do a photo order each month through the Freeprints app, as I like to have all of my photos in front of me to work with.

    LauraVegas_PL2020_1_January22

Then I laid out several of the pocket pages, knowing that I would use at least one of each of the three different pocket configurations. I did a lot of sorting and arranging, and moving photos around, until I was happy with how everything was laid out.

    LauraVegas_PL2020_1_January23

Once all of the photos were in place, I started typing up journaling cards. I do a LOT of copying and pasting from my Instagram, which helps knock out a lot of the journaling cards.

    LauraVegas_PL2020_1_January24

Like I mentioned above, I really do like to have journaling of some sort for most of the photos. I actually had a typed up journaling card for the photo of my breakfast burrito prep (the pic on the right above). But then Alyssa gave me the info for some of her photos, and I realized that I would much rather include the story for the photo of her boyfriend, since that was the day he met her dad for the first time. So I simply added a "breakfast" label to the other photo.

    LauraVegas_PL2020_1_January25

For these currently card that I want to include each month, I simply texted that card image to the girls and asked them to text me their answers. And then I typed them in.

    LauraVegas_PL2020_1_January26

    LauraVegas_PL2020_1_January27

This is the fifth, and last spread, for the month of January.

    LauraVegas_PL2020_1_January28

Once I started to get journaling cards added in, I worked filler cards in here and there was well. I was surprised at how easily the monthly format came together for me.

    LauraVegas_PL2020_1_January29

    LauraVegas_PL2020_1_January30

    LauraVegas_PL2020_1_January31

I have some other ideas of how to add some "extra" things to the monthly format, and will play around with those ideas when I can. Or when they fit in.

    LauraVegas_PL2020_1_January32

But after doing just one month, I can say that I'm loving this new approach, and I think it will be a fun change going into this year's album.

    LauraVegas_PL2020_1_January33

    LauraVegas_PL2020_1_January34

I also came across these monthly dividers in my stash, and thought they'd be fun to use. I believe these are from the very first Project Life type project – the one that started this way of documenting, which was the Project 365 by Becky Higgins. I want to say that was back in 2009.

    LauraVegas_PL2020_1_January35

I'll be sharing my monthly Project Life pages as I complete them, one month at a time. My February photos will be here in a few days, and I can't wait to get started on adding in another month.

  • Hey there. I started a new daily habit this year, and along with it, a new album project. When I was younger, I used to be a HUGE reader. Like "read a book a day" kind of reader. Somewhere along the way, most likely when I had the girls, I stopped reading. For the last several years, I've been telling myself that I wanted to get back into reading. But I just never seemed to make the time for it.

Well, this year, I'm doing it. I started reading my first book of the year at the beginning of January, and just finished my forth book of the year last night. I set a goal to read 25 books in 2020. I'd like to say I can read more than that, but I also know life gets busy, so I want to be realistic and not aim too high. I feel like I'm right on track already, having read 4 books in two months.

    LauraVegas_2020Reading_Book1

Book #1 | Talking As Fast As I Can, by Lauren Graham.

I knew I wanted to create an on-going album to document the books I read – an album that I can easily add to as I finish new books. I brainstormed quite a bit on what format and album size I wanted to do. I figured a 6×8" album would be the best fit.

I had two of these 6×8" black albums from Seven Paper (a short-lived spin off brand of Studio Calico) that I had found on a deals website years ago. They have bigger spines than the 6×8" albums I usually use, so I knew that I could fit a lot into these two albums.

    LauraVegas_2020Reading_Book1a

While I picture myself using the pocket page with four 3×4" openings the most, I also have lots of the full sized 6×8" pages, the pages with two 3×4" openings and a 4×6" openings, and the one filled with fun 2×2" openings – so I will work with those as well, here and there, to use them up.

Since I want to do a title page of sorts at the start of the album, I used a full 6×8" page and printed my first book as a 6×8" photo to go on the backside. I'm taking simple photos of my books, using the same background to keep with the same look. And I've learned to take the photos of the books BEFORE I start reading them – since once I start reading, the cover doesn't lay flat anymore. Lol.

    LauraVegas_2020Reading_Book1b

I got hung up trying to get this simple album going, and I think it's because I was trying too hard to use the digital reading themed products that I have. I will most definitely be using lots of those products, as I have a lot of filler type cards, journaling cards, and tons of digital stamps. But I'll also be using other Project Life type cards that I have in my stash, as well as patterned paper when needed.

    LauraVegas_2020Reading_Book1c

I decided to do a card to go along with each book that has the book number for the year. So for this first book, I have the "book 01" on a PL filler card that I had on hand. I used a label from Kerri Bradford Studio's Label kit, opening it in Photoshop and sizing it to fit in the upper corner of the 3×4" card (knowing that I would be trimming a little off the edge).

I added the "book" to the label, using a digital stamp from Studio Calico's On The Shelf stamp set. Once I had one label ready, size-wise, I copy and pasted it to fill an entire page, and then printed it out. I now have plenty of "book" labels on hand and ready to go. I'll be stamping the numbers using Kerri's Printers Block | Numbers stamp set

    LauraVegas_2020Reading_Book1d

I will be adding a digital journaling card to go with each book, like the one above which is from In A Creative Bubble's Read Journaling Card kit. I wish I had it in me to do an actual review of each book – but I'm really not that deep. Lol. So this journaling will most likely be short and sweet, and somehow related to how I enjoyed the book (or didn't), why I picked it, etc.

    LauraVegas_2020Reading_Book2and3

The pocket pages above, each with four 3×4" pockets, will be the ones I turn to the most. They make perfect sense for the photo/cards I want to include. And while I know that not all of my book pages will coordinate side-by-side, it does make me happy that books 2 & 3 did coordinate, color wise ;)

    LauraVegas_2020Reading_Book2

Book #2 | Marriage Vacation by Pauline Turner Brooks.

    LauraVegas_2020Reading_Book2a

I used a piece of pink and white striped patterned paper for my number card, and went with yellow for my stamped numbers to coordinate with the yellow ring on the book cover.

    LauraVegas_2020Reading_Book2b

I used another digital journaling card from In A Creative Bubble's Read Journaling Card kit. The floral filler card was printed from the Project Life app.

    LauraVegas_2020Reading_Book3

Book #3 | Tempting Fate by Jane Green.

    LauraVegas_2020Reading_Book3a

Once again, I used a digital journaling card from In A Creative Bubble's Read Journaling Card kit. I'll most likely be creating my own journaling cards for a lot of the books, using the wide variety of reading themed digital stamps that I have.

    LauraVegas_2020Reading_Book3b

Both of the filler cards on this page were printed from the Project Life app. I thought the yellow with the navy blue hearts was perfect, as the book cover is blue with yellow text.

I'm really looking forward to filling up this album with books I'll be reading this year. I just finished book #4, so I need to get that added in next.

Hey everyone. I have a new digital layout up at Kerri Bradford Studio using her new Utah's Mighty Five digital stamp set. When Kerri first shared this new stamp set with me, my first thought was that I didn't have a need for it.

    LauraVegas_KBS_BryceCanyon4

But then I thought about all of the camping my family did when I was a kid, and I knew that I could put this set to use with some old photos.

    LauraVegas_KBS_BryceCanyon5

I had my mom dig up some photos specific to Utah's National Parks, as we visited National Parks across the states for years, and she sent me these photos from a stop at Bryce Canyon. These photos were from 1983, so they're not the best quality to begin with – and then she scanned them to send to me. I knew they wouldn't print the best, so I decided to go with a digital layout. In my experience, I find that old photos tend to look a smidge better printed when they're worked into collage templates.

    LauraVegas_KBS_BryceCanyon6

I settled on an 8.5×11" two page spread, starting with a template from Kerri's Storyboard #4 kit for the right page. For the left page, I used a template from the Half Pints: Wander kit. While the Half Pint templates are 6×8" in size, I was able to easily crop one into an 8.5×11" size. I added my photos into the two templates, tweaking one of the photo openings on the first page to make it longer as I didn't want to crop too much out of the photo.

    LauraVegas_KBS_BryceCanyon2

I used the new Utah's Mighty Five digital stamp set to add my title along the top of the first page, as well as the arches, which I changed the color on to make it match the arches in my photos.

    LauraVegas_KBS_BryceCanyon3

I used the Block Party digital stamp set to add the year, 1983, to the bottom of the first page, and used the PNG file from the Summer Vibes kit to add "summer" next to the year. Lastly, I used the And So The Adventure Begins kit to add a filler card to the center opening of the collage on the second page.

  • LauraVegas_HappyHome

Hey all. I created this two page spread in my 6×8" personal album a few weeks ago, and I honestly have no clue why it's taken me so long to share it. There's kind of a funny story on how it even came about.

Long story short. The house that we originally wanted and fell in love with last year, when we first decided to downsize, ended up back on the market a few weeks ago. I very randomly came across it just 2 days after it was listed. It's only about a mile from the house we ended up buying, and I think about it quite often. It's the one house that I have some regret over not getting (it was the one we put our first offer on, but we didn't get it), out of the main houses we were considering. And for a very hot minute, I was ready to put this house on the market and go after that first house. Lol. I know. It was crazy thinking on my part.

I don't always create layouts about things like that, especially in that moment. But it crossed my mind that I should get that crazy story down, and that's how this layout came to be. I included the story about that other house, but I also focused on documenting the things that we truly love about this house.

    LauraVegas_HappyHome5

I dug through my files to find photos that I've taken around the house over the last year or so. I printed them as 2×2" photos and slipped them into a 6×8" divided page protector.

    LauraVegas_HappyHome6

I left three empty pockets on each side of the page protector, with plans to add small embellishments. I cut scraps of white cardstock to 2×2" and adhered an embellishment to each – using chipboard pieces and plastic houses, both from the Ali Edwards "Home" Story Kit

    LauraVegas_HappyHome7

After picking out a coordinating house and chipboard piece for each side of the page, I was left with two more white 2×2" squares (1 for each side of the page) that needed a little something. I used the "Home" Story Stamp set to quickly add a stamped phrase to those two squares.

    LauraVegas_HappyHome2

I used a digital journaling card from the Recorded Journaling Cards No. 3 kit, from In A Creative Bubble, to hold my journaling. The black filler card next to it is from the Home Story Kit.

    LauraVegas_HappyHome3

I used this fun "Happy Home" card, from In A Creative Bubble's Indoorsy Journaling Card kit, as my title card. While I print most of my journaling cards on matte presentation paper, I go back and forth between printing filler cards like this on that same paper – or on soft gloss photo paper. It usually just depends what else I'm printing, as I'll just add cards to the same page.

    LauraVegas_HappyHome4

I see lots of my favorite designers adding vellum into their album projects, and thought it would be fun to try it on this project. I used Kerri Bradford's This Is Our Happy Place kit to print the phrase on a piece of vellum, trimming it to the same size as my page protectors. I ended up using two black and white Project Life filler cards to create tabs, which I adhered to the vellum where the album rings fall.

    LauraVegas_HappyHome8

    LauraVegas_HappyHome9

I was actually short a few photos, as I was aiming to get 9 photos on each side of the page protector. And I had a few parts of the house that I wanted to be sure to include. So I snapped a few quick photos to add to the ones that I had already printed.

    LauraVegas_HappyHome10

    LauraVegas_HappyHome11

I created a large journaling card of sorts, sized to 6×8", adding a digital stamp to the top using Ali Edward's What Today Looked Like kit. I typed up my crazy story, editing it quite a bit as I went, because I can get very long-winded in my story telling 😉

    LauraVegas_HappyHome12

I originally printed this page with just the journaling and title, but I felt like it needed something else. I was scrolling Instagram, and I saw someone had added a faint digital image behind their journaling, and it gave me the idea to add a house behind mine. I used a digital house from the Digital Home Story Kit, changing the opacity to make it a little lighter and let the journaling stand out.

And there it is. I can look back on this crazy story now and laugh about it. And years from now, I'll have proof of how crazy my mind works sometimes – just by looking back at this layout.

  • Welcome back to another Project Life share post. I'm going to be sharing a full month's worth of weekly spreads from my 2019 Project Life album at a time. Since there won't be many details to share – seeing as how I'm using the same, single journaling card, same weekly title cards, and filler cards printed from the PL app – I'm going to keep these posts short and sweet.

For a recap of how I'm approaching this year's album, check out THIS POST for all of the details.
