there is no doubt in my mind … i have to share this story from today. one that cracks me up … and gives me the heebie-jeebies … all at the same time.

so haley shows up this morning. sometimes she brings a baby doll from home or a toy. but today … she brought this:

IMG_0907_edit_resize

this, my friends … is a fake cat. plastic and totally flat on the bottom … and fur on the top. tell me this does not look totally real!!! and yes, click on it to see it up close and bigger … if you dare! i guess haley was visiting with some family this past weekend … and came across this cat that has been around for years. and she totally latched onto it. has carried it around all weekend. has slept with it. her mom even had to hot-glue some of the bottom together … and had to sneak it away from her.

have i ever mentioned i am NOT a cat person? i'm not. they scare me a little. and we also don't have pets around. alyssa is very allergic to dogs … so we've never had one. and we never had a cat because … well … because i do not like cats.

so anyways. i was fine with this cat this morning. haley carried it around … held it while i held her. i touched it and moved it around when she left it behind. i tossed it to the side when the kids took their morning naps. i sat it next to her on the floor while she was eating lunch. but then i layed the kids down for the afternoon naps … and forgot all about it. apparently it ended up here … at the end of the kitchen island.

now, i do a lot of my work on the kitchen island. that is where i set up scrapbook projects during the day … in hopes of getting a few moments here and there to work on stuff. i also keep my laptop on the kitchen counter (to the right of this photo) during the day … checking in on emails, blogs, and stuff when i get time. so i'm always walking right here … where this photo was taken.

and i kid you not … EVERY TIME i turned around from the laptop … or turned the corner of the island … this thing scared the daylights out of me!!! i would jump … and freak. at one point i was laughing so hard at this fake cat … and the fact that it looked so incredible real. and even though i knew it was fake … i couldn't bring myself to move it … or to even scoot it off to the side with my foot. i finally got to where i was eyeing it as i came close … then would make dramatic-walk-as-far-as-you-can-away-as-you-can circles around it. and i waited until the girls got home from school … and i had THEM move it! of course, they thought it was kind of cool … and placed it on the couch. even more bizarre if you ask me. lol!

we'll see if haley brings the cat again tomorrow!

That’s funny!! That thing looks like a dead animal far away! I had a couple cats as a kid, but I’m a dog person by far!
Its funny how kids will just love something like that! It does look amazingly real though.

I am new to your blog and I must tell you that I LOVE IT! The cat is so realistic. I am a cat lover and we have Baci (kisses in Italian). She is so big and cuddly and I cannot imagine our lives without her. I do understand how you feel. Keep up your awesome blog. I will be checking in daily.

oh.. I’m sorry but I can’t tell you it doesn’t look real, because it does 🙂 First I thouhgt “what a lovely cat they have”.. and then I started to read at it was NOT a real cat. You’ve got me fooled there to. But I love cats, in fact I have 3 of them, and two of them are NFO’s so they are quite big:)
    Have a lovely day Laura:)

That’s really funny Laura! My kids have seen these at a few stores and have always wanted one! I think cats are OK, i’m not crazy about them, but the breathing does freak me out too! And they even have puppy ones like the cat, and those are a little weird too!

I am not a cat person either- of course the only pet we have is a fish- a daughter with allergies prevents having a dog. That thing is so realistic. Good luck with that- I think she may be showing up with her new friend for a few days- lol.

Oh Laura I almost wet myself laughing so hard at this because I remember the time we were at the park taking pictures of my girls and that crazy cat kept following us around and meowing. You know I love cats but I know what it’s like to fear something also and I am sorry it scared you. But love the story and thanks for sharing once again real life!

At first, I thought it was a REAL cat sleeping on a STUFFED cat…and that you had an amalgamation of the two….I knew it couldn’t be real, the face was not quite right…but man, that’s pretty darned realistic! I can just see you loping around the cat in your kitchen…sheesh!

okay I have an issue with those cats too: The day after my cat had died, {I had him since I was 12} I went to work, and we just received an order, so I went to open up the first box and there was one of those freaky cats, and it looked just like “my” cat. At first I thought someone was playing a prank on me, until I saw that the box was full of cats, all different colors, but the first one had to look like mine. My boss was laughing, I was crying…then he felt like a jerk when he found out my cat died….but he loves to tell the story of “Alicia’s cat”!! whatever!

I am also a non-cat lover, and yeah, that thing would have to be far away from me. LOL!
Weird how kids love things like that.
One of my kids got attached to a rubber snake. That was a rough year…

I have that exact same cat. It sleeps on my bed every day and when people come over they say “I didn’t know you had a cat”, and I just tell them with a wink, “well, that’s because he’s really quiet and sleeps a lot, so you won’t see him around the house much.”

I am Haley’s Aunt Amy, and yes we gave Haley the “Kitty Kitty.” But My sister bought it for my daughter when her cat died!!! She wanted another cat and begged Auntie Sarah for the kitty when she saw it. And the softy my sister is she bought it! So When Haley visited us this weekend she was carring around and showing everybody like it was real and saying “Kitty Kitty! I couldn’t resist but to send it home with her. At our house the cat would be in different spots. Sometimes in the corner sometimes under the chair, just like a real cat would. People would believe it was real and they would even bend down to pet it!!!That never got old. So we pass the “kitty kitty” on to you and we hope that everybody enjoys it just as much as we did. 🙂

I’m allergic to cats so we will never have one either but I would probably stop and wonder about this cat everytime I saw it – amazing how real it looks 🙂

LMAO! Laura this post totally cracks me up because something simular happened to me!
I was invited over to a friends house and as I went through the door, she announced that they had got a new kitten! Now, I am a cat lover, so I was totally excited!
She lead me through to her bedroom where it was curled up on the bed! I gooed and gaahhed and went as far as patting it before I realised that it was cold and hard!!! haha
