the other morning, sarah woke up … and she said something that she has said several times before. "i got 10 hours of sleep last night … so why do i still have dark circles under my eyes?". i had to laugh. the poor girl … she just has these dark circles under her eyes half the time … and it's not for lack of sleep. lol!

right away … it reminded me of this photo. i LOVED this photo when i took it … over a year ago. i love that you can see me in her eyes … standing above her taking her picture. but that dark circle under her left eye … it bothered me. i tried to retouch it, but it ended up looking worse. lol! but yet … it was perfect for this layout. perfect to remember this funny quote of her's. edited to add: sarah just got home from school, and i was showing her the layout. after looking at this photo … she now thinks that her left eye is bigger than her right eye. i told her it wasn't. then she said "what, there's supposed to be SOMETHING wrong with everyone". lol!

this layout came together in no time at all. i was looking for a journaling tag … and found these circle tags from martha stewart that i had never used. and the bag of autumn leaves buttons were sitting on the shelf … and matched. and i like how the circles (of the tags and the buttons) kind of go with the "circles under my eyes" theme … but yet, that wasn't my intention at all. just sort of happened.

then just used a rubon journaling circle … and a mix of rubons and hand journaling. i wish i had added the "10" in a rubon … so it would have stood out more. oh well. and how cute are those butterflies … they're foam and glittery. they're from making memories … i happen to find this one lone package of them at target this weekend. i'll be on the lookout for more next time i go!

supplies:
cardstock – bazzill
tags – martha stewart
buttons – autumn leaves
rubon journaling circle – hambly
rubon letters, foam butterflies –
making memories
scallop punch – stampin up

also wanted to share about what thread i'm using … since several of you have asked. i used to use lots of regular embroidery floss … like the ones in this jar. but then i found out about these balls of thread from jennifer. you can find these in the yarn section at michaels. and there are lots of different kinds … make sure you look for the ones that are $1.99 … what a great deal. not a ton of colors to choose from like the bunches of floss … but a decent selection. i came across the red and black just a few weeks ago … you'd have thought i'd won the lottery … i was THAT excited with my purchase! and to be honest … one of these 8 colors have managed to work for pretty much everything i've done recently.

Love all the soft colors and designs on your layout. Nice job with the MS tags and MM butterflies. This gave me an idea. I am going to try and make some with Cuttle Bug and Doodle Bug sugar coat. Love all your soft colors of string. This stuff is so much fun to use.
Tell Sarah, Mary Kay has something to help with dark circles. They happen at any age.
I with her the best. My DD has them from time to time too. http://www.marykay.com/skincare/lipeyecare/10011913/10011913/default.aspx

It’s a beautiful photo, dark circles or not! Thanks for sharing where to get the cotton. I have one roll that I found at Hobby Lobby and the color is getting a little boring!

Thanks for the pic of the thread…I’ve looked in M’s but wasn’t sure if it was the right stuff so I’ve skipped it. And I so know what you mean by “winning the lottery” when you find something you’ve wanted for awhile!!

I love that you found a way to make that photo work for you. I think that the journaling, and her quote in this case, are just as important as the perfect photo.
I need to go find some of that thread…you have got me itching to use some on a layout.

What a great close up. The buttons and the tags are perfect! Yeah, know about those dark circles…we can thank our genes for that…LOL!
And thanks for the info and pic of the floss. I get mine from HL but I could never find it at M’s…gotta look again.

Oh this is so sweet – and I can relate! I have those dark circles too and while I definitely don’t get 10 hours sleep nowadays even when I was younger I had them – the joys of being Italian and having my coloring. In any case your daughter is gorgeous circles and all! Love the buttons all over this! And I just “discovered” those threads not too long ago as well – I like the way they don’t fray like regular floss does.

Gorgeous layout and such a beautiful young lady. She is so smart and aware of that it is ok that people have flaws. Remind her that no one has two eyes that are shaped the same. Her eyes are so beautiful.
    Have a groovy week!

    what a cute quote….
have u ever inquired with the dr. about her dark cirles? being a wife of a diabetic….and having a friends lil girl @ the tender age of 4, being also diagnosed with diabetes..i remember the dark/greyish/purplish circles under her eyes…. i don’t want to seem like a worry wart or a dark cloud.

I love that thread/yarn too! My favorite – I just got that rose color today!
And so funny you say that about the dark circles — sometimes Alyson gets them and the DR said that it is from allergies?? Have you ever heard that?
And of course – love your work!:)

Poor girl – maybe the circles are from getting too much sleep (lol).
So I guess the rub-on journaling spots really work. I have several, but have been a bit hesitant to use them. You have inspired me to dig them out!
