i have to be honest about something. those pictures of my studio? not usually what the place looks like. lol! truth is, it's usually got lots of piles going on. organized piles, but they're still piles.

i know what some of you are thinking. that my "piles" really aren't that bad. right? i can tell when i'm not organized enough for my liking. i get to where i can't think, and i can't be creative. this is what happened this weekend. i got so overwhelmed by all the stuff i had out. baggies all over. some for assignments and some just to be put away. a few packages to put together for giveaways. my project 365 album, that is calling my name. i had no clue where to start, what to work on first.

i decided to start by getting my pattern paper all put away and organized. but then, somehow, that turned into a big ordeal. i had some extra room on one of my paper shelves, so i moved some things. then i didn't have enough room and had to move the things back to the way it was in the first place. i'm SO organized, and everything has it's place. yet, on occasion, i have to re-work those places to fit what i'm doing at the time. i got so overwhemed, that at one point, i just sat on the floor totally lost. like i had no idea how i was going to work my way out. i got a little anxious, i'll admit it. which is crazy. it's paper, after all. lol! i finally forced myself to walk away from it and move on to something else. and in the morning, i had a fresh new approach to it and got it all worked out.

funny thing is, i saw some pictures the next day that made me realize that what i consider an "out of control mess" is actually nothing. my aunt is a professional organizer, and is currently working on this one job. let's just say that the owner of the house is a huge pack-rat, a hoarder of stuff. like, you can't even see the floor or counter tops. and my aunt and her co-workers are trying to gain some control and pack it all to be moved. she took pictures. those pictures made me sick to look at them. i felt like i couldn't breathe, like i was actually having an anxiety attack. and that's just looking at the pictures. i could not imagine working on something like that. as much as i love organizing, i think i have my limits. more power to you, aunt sandy 😉

so i guess my piles really aren't that bad after all. i will appreciate and love them for what they are. small piles of goodness, that i do have control over 🙂

So glad you are normal. I have several piles in my sb room that need put away.
I am working on a new way to store my supplies however, it is not working for me.
I take great joy in looking at your room. I see lots of your ideas I can use in my room.
    Thanks for sharing.

I have been wanting to do some before and after shots of my different studio’s throughout the years. Some of them just are not pretty at all!

congratulations on the feature in CK, I will look around and see if I can find the issue. we don’t seem to get them all, not sure why.
As for your ‘mess’ it is good to know that you have little piles about the place like the rest of us.

I’d be in Heaven with those piles!! But I totally know what you mean! I can’t function when everything’s a mess…and yes it sometimes leads to organizing which turns into something you didn’t mean to do…I’ve been there & know how you feel! Relax it could be worse & luckily you’re not that pack rat woman!

that is so funny! I work in an organized creative mess. It is funny how my room is organized, with the exeption of my scrap area…and when that is messy I move to the floor, then downstairs, and to the kitchen. Yet I can’t ever just sit and scrap unless the whole house is completely clean. Which is why I don’t scrap 🙂 it’s so wierd…

Funny you should post this because just last night I was thinking about how I love that feature in the magazine, but it never depicts how people really work!! I’ll be looking forward to seeing the article… though becuase I’m in Australia I have to wait a whole month until the August issue comes out! 😦

Thank goodness! I was beginning to wonder if you were a neat freak or something! 😉 I have several “organized” piles myself. I need to make them into something. Soon, soon.

    Hi Mary-
I think you may be onto something–Laura’s house definately has signs of neat freak written all over the place. It’s either that or don’t open the hall closet!!!
    hee, hee, hee…!
    Congrats on the feature Laura!

Laura, thanks for sharing and being real. Like I share with many of my readers, organization is an ongoing process. You don’t ever ‘arrive’. Just take steps (even small ones) towards keeping your craft space functional. As you indicated it can be hard to be creative until there is a level of organization around us.
That said it is important for those of us who promote organized scrapbook rooms, that we also let the real side of us show. It isn’t perfect, we have chaos too.
    Thanks for the reminder.

Congrats on being featured in CK. I love your studio. I think that’s how I actually came across your blog. I was in the process of setting up my scrap room and was online looking for ideas. Although my scrapping area isn’t anywhere close to being as awesome as yours… it’s still pretty cool… and like you, I am forever organizing and reorganizing. My husband says I have a sickness. lol!

Got my issue last night and flipped right to your pages – SO cool!! You give us all inspiration to organize 🙂 I’m actually in purging mode right now, going through each and every stamp I own and there are 100s! Time to select a few god keeps and my SUp collection, then get rid of the rest; just in time for the new book release – lol!

Man, even messy, I’d give my right arm (wait, I’d need that to scrap) – no, my right pinkie toe – to have a work place like that!
