wanted to share another layout for creating keepsakes a while back.

Sarah_im_sorry_spread

as seen in the january 2010 issue of Creating Keepsakes magazine. copyright creative craft groups. posted with prior permission from the publisher.

this was done at the same time as my "text messaging" layout. one of the other ideas they were looking for, was to incorporate a letter from your child onto your scrapbook page. just as quickly as i jumped on the teen slang part of the assignment, i also jumped on this idea. and i knew right away what i was going to do it about. sarah and her "i'm sorry" letters. i've mentioned these before. we tend to butt heads a lot, since we're both so much alike. and she isn't a big talker in those moments. but she will write me letters afterwards, saying how sorry she is. and there is usually some other funny stuff in those letters. i have saved most of them from over the years. i even made a folder to keep them in last year, which you can see HERE.

Sarah_im_sorry_page1

before i start, i have to let you know that sarah is totally fine with the fact that i made this layout, and that it was in a magazine, and that i blog about it. trust me. she's cool with it. i wanted to find some photos that went with the story behind her letters. now, i do actually have photos of her crying her head off and hiding out under tables. i'm the mean mom that takes photos like that of my kids. lol! but those were from when she was little. instead, i went with some of her pouty photos. sarah can pout like no other. she's good at it. 2 of these were from my film days, so they're not the best. but i thought they all went together nicely.

Sarah_im_sorry_journaling

the journaling was really hard to read in the magazine. i know that i love to read people's journaling. i'm nosey like that. lol!

Sarah_im_sorry_page2

this is one of her actual letters. it was hard to just pick one. but this was the one i picked for the layout. i adhered it to white cardstock, since the notebook paper is so thin. i know sometimes it's hard to read kids writing, unless they're your own kids 😉

"dear mom. you are a really great mom and i love you alot. i am really sorry if i was just sitting there doing nothing. i know that you are mad. but i am really sorry again. but sorry doesn't work for you. i know. so i wanted to say i love you. you are the best mom i could ever have in the whole wide world. and that i am still really sorry that i made you mad. apparently this letter is really special to me and it is making me cry because of what i am saying. i hope you aren't still mad at me. love you. your daughter, sarah"

how cute is that? i so wish i had put the date on these letters. but i know this was from about 3 years ago. she still writes me letters. and i still save them. but now she's fully aware that i save them, so sometimes she'll write me letters just to be funny. lol!

I am the same – I love to read other people’s journalling and often find myself holding the magazine close and squinting to read!! I did the same thing reading Sarah’s letter… and then discovered you had re-written it for us nosey types 🙂 I love the colours on this page too!

What a great 2-pager, Laura. I really like those trees and the pics are so perfect for this page, and the letter so sweet.

I love this page also. It’s nice to see a page that’s not all about the happy times because we all have these kinds of days where they aren’t happy. She is a cutie even with that sad pout. That’s great about the letters she writes to you and that you save them. Thanks for making the journaling bigger for us to read, since I am nosy too. I like the colors and how you did the page too, very sweet.

I posted my above comment before going to look at your folder idea first. OH MY GOODNESS, THIS IS A GREAT IDEA!!!! I love how you decorated each one to match the theme. I never know what to do with all those little things so I just put them in these big bins in the attic that hold all their stuff from the school year in. Sometimes I want to go back and remember their songs, etc. but don’t want to pull these things out to look for it. Now I know what to do with them. How big are these envelopes, I didn’t get that kit either but really wanted it. Where do you keep them? Maybe Office Max would have something this size and I’d add my own flair to each one. This would be perfect for my daughter’s stories they are always writing down too and Renee loves to come up with food creations and menu ideas in case she ever has a restrauant now I could save these in place for her to look back on. THANK YOU THANK YOU LAURA !!!

Oh how special this layout is. It is so touching to read her letter to you. I all most cried. LOL I also love your folder idea too.
My youngest age 4. Leaves me drawing everywhere. In fact just this week while making dinner she tossed up a small drawing on the counter and ran off. Then last night as I went to brush my teeth she had a larger drawing on the counter bathroom she left before going to bed. I am going on retreat this weekend so it might be because I am leaving.
I am so happy for you. You success is well deserved:) Your blog is wonderful. In fact I did three layouts last weekend and I searched you blog for inspiration.
    Blessings

Oh my gosh!! How cute, and what a great idea! I have a little love note/apology letter from my daugter sitting in front of me! She was apologizing for cutting her hair and not telling the “trooth” about it!
    Thanks for the idea!!

Laura, This was so neat to see… the reality that is our lives. I too take photos of my kids’ ‘not so happy’ moments. Like when my youngest cried on his 9th birthday because he didn’t want to grow old and turn 10. I had actually posted that layout this week on my blog… http://www.scrapbookersinnercircle.com/magazine/read/where-has-the-time-gone_186.html
Isn’t it great that our kids are okay with us sharing about them 🙂

I think the idea to use Sarah’s letter on a LO is priceless! Really a great way to preserve even the “not-so-great” moments of life! And I’m the same as you–I tend to read the journaling on LO’s in magazines too! LOL!!
