this layout was in the february issue of scrapbook trends magazine. a magazine that has been so good to me over the last 4-5 years. the majority of my published work has been through them, along with cards magazine. this was the last layout that i had picked up by them, before joining the creating keepsakes family.

Alyssa_whoos_my_best_friend

i had originally created this for one of my jillibean soup blog projects. but then it got picked up for the magazine right after i created it. so this was one that i never got to share. the photo is of alyssa and one of her BFF's, cassie. the main starting point for this layout was the owl pattern paper, and the super old ki memories acrylic letters. i wanted to use those letters, and loved the orangeness of them. of course, the photo didn't match. so black and white, it became.

i took an extra piece of the owl pattern paper, and cut out a few of the owls. then i simply pop dotted them, on top of the same sized owls. nothing super inventive, but a simple way to add some texture and interest to your layout. and the title? i know, i'm a genious with the play on words. lol! "whoo's my best friend". tell me that's not brilliant 😉

Hi Laura! I just came over by way of Today’s Creative Blog and wanted to say what an amazing blog you have. I love the little things you do while scrap booking to make things “pop” like gluing the owl over the top of the other one to give it texture. I love great, simple ideas! Congrats on being published so many times; I love the recent ones for texting and “i’m sorry”; they were adorable! I will defintely be back by from time to time for scrap booking tips. I am new to scrap booking and my early works are embarrassing! LOL!! Thanks for sharing!

I just used some of those soup can letters on a layout about my son. I love them and have been hoarding them… was happy to use them. Love the orange. Wonder if I can still find them? Great layout–super cute title!

I have to agree with the above comments, you are brilliant. I always have a hard time coming up with funny, clever titles. I love the l/o and the orange letters work perfectly. I have to get some glue dots and start using them that way, thanks for sharing with us again.
