my camera and i are at odds with each other. it's been going on for a few months now. and it might explain the serious lack of photos this year. it's frustrating to me. i take out the camera with good intentions. but when i don't get the shot i want, i get frustrated and confused, and i give up.

i'm honestly not sure who is to blame. it might be the camera's fault.  lots of focusing issues, and some color issues. could be the camera, could be the lens, could just be an off setting that i'm not seeing. or it could be my fault. user error. highly likely. i tend to have these brain fart moments. where i just forget the stuff that i DO know, and can't even take a basic photo.

i'm finally ready to figure it out. the first thing i thought i would do, is test out my camera and my lenses. luckily, alyssa's dad has the same exact camera i have, and some of the same lenses. and yes, we have the same camera bags too. i borrowed his for a few days, and am going to swap camera bodies and lenses and check them all against each other. then i'll go from there.

another thing that i'm feeling ready for, is to take this binder out. karen russell is my favorite photographer of them all. and i was lucky enough to get into her second session of the photographer's workshop, an online 9 week photography class that she teaches. this was almost 2 years ago, that i took this class. but sadly, i have just never taken the time to focus in and take the time to learn this. this huge amount of awesome information is just waiting for me to absorb and learn it. and i'm finally ready. i'm determined. i pulled out the binder and put it out on the island. that's a start for me. once things are on the island, they're a lot more likely to get paid attention too 🙂

So frustrating! I love Karen’s blog…I’m taking Maggie Holmes class right now and am finally learning how to use my camera after owning it for about 5 years! Hope you are able to figure out the trouble spot!

I can tell you are frustrated. I have never had much luck with anything but my 50 indoors. And dang, that binder is huge! I am sure it is full of great info. Hey, was the MM jewelry at the Target in Manteca? I looked down the scrap aisle, and didnt see anything…then wondered if it was the Modesto store you mentioned seeing it at…

Laura I always think your photos look fantastic, clear, awesome. My pictures don’t look like that. I don’t have a fancy camera or anything but I think they should be better. Our library is offering a free digital camera photography class so me and the girls are going to try and go next week I think it is? I’m hoping this helps me figure out if it’s my camera or just me. Sorry your frustrated, I know for us scrappers we NEED OUR CAMERA’S EVERYDAY AND GO NUTS IF IT’S NOT WORKING!! That’s great that you can look at her dad’s camera and figure it out hopefully. Keep us posted. Good luck on all that reading, that’s a lot to absorb.

Good luck and I hope you can figure out what’s up! Looks like I have a similar camera and I’ve had it for years and never had a problem. Now it keeps giving me error codes when I use it – been in the shop twice and now they are blaming it on the lens. I feel your frustration!

Laura…ha ha – I was in the same class, I think, with you at Karen’s site! She’s incredible, isn’t she? Sadly, I didn’t devote as much time to it as I wanted to after the first few weeks. My big binder is next to my bed and I justed dusted it off last week, vowing to crack it open again. Great minds think alike! Good luck with your camera and lens issue. Hope it is an easy one to resolve.

I was thinking of taking a photography class, but I am not sure I will be able to complete it. Hopefully, my pictures will look as good as yours someday 😐 Good luck with figuring out your camera issues. I need to learn how to use mine.
