we all know what this is, right? only the greatest invention in the whole wide world. the remote control.
this is what our's looks like. well, this is actually our upstairs remote. the downstairs one has green on the bottom, with a #1. your's might look different. this remote is one of the most important things in the house. if you're lucky enough to be holding it, you have more power and control than you know what to do with. whoever is holding the remote, is the one that decided what everyone else watches. but what happens if you can't find this remote? all power is gone. the control suddenly goes to whoever is motivated enough to get up from the couch and press the buttons on the tv to get the channel they want. lol!
but yesterday, we lost the remote. it wasn't a "we-misplaced-the-remote-and-we-can't-find-it". it was a strange dissapearance, that was unexplainable. it was there one minute. on the couch, because i had the world cup soccer game on. then sarah came downstairs and changed it to disney channel, and threw the remote back on the couch. 10 minutes later, it was nowhere to be found. it was the same amount of people in the room. no one had left or gone anywhere. nothing strange had happened. it was just there one minute and was gone the next. the girls were appauled that they had to press buttons on the tv to change the channel. so old school.
we did search here and there throughout the day. we didn't have the tv on that much, so it wasn't a huge priority. but we kept looking. then i had ran to the store to get something for dinner. and it dawned on me that without the remote, i had no way of getting to my recorded shows on the DVR schedule. then it became serious. dead serious. i came home and insisted that the remote be found.
so everyone looked. including alyssa's friend that was over. and sarah's friend that came in the middle of the search. for the few of you that actually know my house and have seen it, you know that i keep a very tidy house. there's really not a lot of places that it could get lost in. we searched every nook and cranny of this house. upstairs and downstairs. every cabinet and drawer, every closet and hamper. in the fridge, the freezer, and even the stove. you just don't know where things can end up, right? we moved the couches about 4 times, taking out all the cushions every time. we even turned them upside down, and inspected the bottom part.
our search turned up nothing. absolutely nothing. we gave up. we mourned the loss of our remote. i was actually really depressed about it. my one quiet time of the day, is late at night when the girls are finally asleep and joe's off at work. and i can sit down and watch a few of my recorded shows on the DVR. how could i do that now? i was so distracted by the whole situation, that i was having a hard time focusing on my assignment due this morning. i kept scanning the house, still looking for that remote. retracing steps, or where it could be.
late last night, i was getting stuff ready for bed. i wasn't going to bed, just prepping. lol! but i went to switch my pillow with joe's, since i like to sleep on his side when he's not here. i flung his pillow to the other side, and i head a big clunk as it hit the headboard. no, it couldn't be. but yes, it was. the remote was INSIDE his pillowcase. how crazy is that? it all came back to me. his pillow had been on the downstairs couch that morning, since he had taken a before-work nap the night before. when he got home from work yesterday morning, i went to take his pillow upstairs. i guess i didn't notice that it was a little heavier. and i guess he didn't notice anything, as he slept on it for 8 hours. lol!
needless to say, we're all happy to have our remote back. we're all glad we don't have to search for it anymore. we're excited to be able to get to our recordings. and i was finally able to concentrate and get my assignment done :)
