today is saturday sketches, on the bella blvd blog. and it was my turn to play along. this week, we're using a sketch from becky fleck.

i know i have scrapped this family photo before, on one of my CHA layouts. since those layouts don't come back to me, i wanted to get this photo scrapped on a layout for my own albums. and this sketch was perfect for it. i pulled out lots of bella's family dynamix pattern papers to get started.

a few things to point out, in this full shot of the layout. the pink border piece is from the new chipboard elements set. these borders are about 8 inches in length, so they won't stretch all the way across a 12×12 page. but since i only needed it to show on the top and the bottom, i just cut it into 2 pieces, and adhered them seperately. also, i used a few of our new buttons in the upper left corner. i wanted a simple look, that didn't compete with the papers. so i choose a few floral buttons, and just used them upside down, so just the natural wood shows.

i stayed pretty true to the sketch. i did change up the title piece a bit. instead of using a full circle to hold my title, i used a half circle, and went a bit larger in size. this was partly done because i had already adhered flowers all the way across the page, forgetting that i needed my title in there.

i wanted to add some texture to my page with the flowers. i hand cut them from a sheet of patterned paper, and then wadded each one up into a ball. just like you would a piece of garbage. then i flattened them back out, and adhered them to the page using pop dots. this is SO simple, and yet it adds lots of texture and dimension to the page.

I love how you made this sketch your own. I really like what you did with the flowers! Balling them up and flattening them back out really did add some great texture. I am going to have to try this! Thanks for the inspiration. Beautiful work!

I like this layout too…and the idea of wadding up the flowers; I’ll have to remember that. I like what you wrote about your family…and how all the different patterns seem to work on this layout.
