• ok, fine … i’ll blog. lol! totally random tonight … mainly scrapbook stuff … creative stuff. will do the kids next time.

    • first off … just wanted to say "thank you" to all of you that have been leaving me such nice comments on the projects i’ve been sharing! i seriously love reading each one … and hopefully i have replied to each of them.
    • last night i noticed that i had passed the 2000th comment mark on my blog … that’s a ton of comments over the past 2 1/2 years! i knew it was coming up … and i had thought about having a RAK for the person that left the 2000th comment. last night it was at comment 2004 … so i counted backwards to 2000 … and carla is my lucky winner of a RAK that i never actually announced! kind of cool and unexpected, right … makes it more fun! i have no idea what i’m sending her yet … so maybe i’ll wait to fill the box before declaring how much fun she’ll actually get from me! lol!
    • played around with my blog a little bit today. i want to freshen things up some … change the look a little. i have to thank kelly for sharing with me how to change the text colors in typepad. see, typepad has about 13 colors to choose from … and not the colors i really wanted. i knew there was a way to have more options … i just didn’t know what that way was. i was noticing the cool colors on kelly’s blog today … so i figured i would just ask her. she was kind enough to tell me … saving me precious time trying to figure it out on my own. lol!
    • but then i got busy after changing a few text colors … and didn’t really finish. so the red, turquoise (which i’m convinced i’m spelling wrong), and the brown are not necessarily permanent … i’ll work on it more tomorrow. and i’m thinking of a new banner … have a few ideas in mind.
    • i got a phone call today from scrapbooks etc today … but the layout they were requesting is already being published. how sad is that? lol! that’s the first time i’ve ever had to say that a layout isn’t available. and to have to say "no" to scrapbooks etc? so painful!
    • i took out my camera today. i also took some crappy pictures today. i won’t lie … they were bad. so bad that i deleted them all.
    • i placed a photo order through winkflash on monday … remember, all their 5×7’s are only 14 cents right now. i actually have 2 accounts … one for family photos and one for daycare photos. you can use the coupon code once … so i placed the order for the daycare photos and will do the family photos next. wasn’t until i had placed the order … i realized i forgot to choose the matte finish and the white borders. ARGH!!! i detest glossy photos … and i have to have the white border. luckily, it was only 18 photos … guess i’ll give them to the parents.
    • i had this crazy thought a few weeks ago … i was actually thinking about coming up with some sort of class idea. sometimes i miss teaching. i taught at the lss for 2 years … until about a year and a half ago when the store closed. i had gone in a different lss a few weeks ago … and apparently i was "noticed". lol! i actually thought the lady was just being funny … in a "oh yeah, we remember you" kind of way. turns out, they knew my name … she said that she was always telling the previous owner that they had to figure out how to steal me away from the store where i was teaching. she said to let her know if i got back into teaching. so i was thinking about it … but now i’m not sure.
    • yeah, that last one was just rambling.  i’m thinking about something … wait, i’m not thinking about something. i know, make up my mind and then share with you … that would make more sense. lol!

ok … that’s it for now. i have a movie waiting for me. i’m caught up on my shows again … except for the 2 that were on tonight. so i picked up a few movies. so funny how i go in and exchange joe’s action and suspense movies … for my chick flick movies.  then he brings in my chick flick movies and gets his action and suspense movies back!

  • i'm stuck on these colors, i tell you! so bright and fun … i just love color! did this layout and 3 cards yesterday. and i stretched every inch of that sheet of yellow pattern paper … all these were made from one sheet (one of these cards, i made 2 of).

    Sarah_hey_sunshine

a few weeks ago, the super talented jennifer asked me if i wanted to pick out some hero arts stamps to play around with. i was thrilled that she thought to ask me … after all, i have admired her work for years and years. now i have admitted that i'm not much of a stamper … but mainly because i'm a lazy scrapper. lol! but i've been having fun playing with them. on these projects, i mainly used the heart (which i can't find a link to right now), layering circles, and the circle journaling shape.

i had stamped a bunch of these hearts on scraps of cardstock in bright colors and then cut them out. that's how this whole layout started … i didn't even know what photo i was using. i thought it would be cute to punch holes in the hearts and then back them with white cardstock. then i added a few mini brads to each heart … not in the middle of the holes, but slightly to the side. this cool rub-on title from ki memories just happen to be sitting on my desk … and i thought it would go good. love that kind of stuff … things that aren't planned, they just happen. other stuff is making memories brads (which i'm strongly addicted too!), lil davis ribbon, and the pattern paper is also ki memories.

    I_adore_you_card_2

same basic idea … on a card. i love using my scraps while they're out … and using my layout design on a smaller scale like a card. and since i had smaller scraps of pattern paper … i just added 2 seperate pieces and adhered the ribbon where they meet.

    Celebrate_card

and a fun birthday card … something i need to make more of. i think i have birthdays coming up … and i never have cards. of course, here's my problem … when i really like the way a card turns out … i have a hard time giving it away. lol! tell me i'm not the only one that does this!

  • i did these 2 layouts about a month ago. i must have been in a primary-color-kind-of-mood!

    Always_friends

exactly how cute did this one turn out? and no, i'm not full of myself … i just love this layout! lol! and you have to promise me to fully appreciate it … because i don't even want to tell you just how long that photo collage took me to make! i have not mastered the easy way to crop a photo into a perfect square in photoshop (if in fact there IS an easy way) … so that was part of it. then i had to actually dig through files from the past 2 1/2 years to find the photos i wanted to use. the girls looked at this and would tell me "you forgot so-and-so" and "what about so-and-so" … but i couldn't include the kids that were before my digital days, you know. the pattern papers, stickers, labeles, and die-cuts on here are all from the creative cafe collection from creative imaginations.

    Right_now_we_love

and i loved these photos of the girls with the cute knit hats my friend shirley made … and they went so good with these fun clear flowers from making memories. i actually did this for a call … they were looking for pages about "favorites" and i thought it would be fun to list some of their favorite things right now. although i had them fill out my questions … and then they got upset that some of their answers were the same … and then there was some accusations of "copying" … and then we had a big talk … and then some answers were changed so as not to have any "copying" of too many answers. lol!

off to start cooking my dishes for the super bowl party. i could really care less about the game … so "un-american" of me. i don't even know who's playing. but my brother has a party every year … since he's got the big, huge screen in the theater room … apparently good for watching an important game on. lol! i'm making some sort of "chimichanga" (or something like that, i'm too lazy too look it up right now) chicken dippers … and some "chili-dog nachos". have a great day!

  • i was thrilled when heather asked me to be the guest designer for scrapbook bakery this month! actually, i should say i was honored … she has had some of the best guest designers since she started doing her monthly kits. so i was very excited to be following up such talent from previous months. and the kits … so cute!
    Scrapbook_bakery_feb_banner
this month’s kit is called "love is in the air" … perfect for valentines projects (although my layouts certainly aren’t valentiney). the price is only for a limitied time and will change at a later date … it is $34.99 with the retail value at around $45.00 … so a great deal! and heather is also going to include a free goodie bag for anyone that orders and mentions that they saw this on my blog (just add it in the "customer notes" section).
this is the banner project i made using the large 5×7 heidi swapp playing cards that are included in the kit. yes, the other side on these are actual playing cards (which the girls really wanted to play with!) … but i just loved the black polka-dot side. i did use some chipboard letters that are not in the kit … but i covered them with the KImemories papers from the kit. the only other thing from my own stash that i added to my projects were the silver brads, the gems, and one sheet of white cardstock. everything else on here is right from the kit. and i even have leftovers … just to show you how much you can do with this.

    Scrapbook_bakery_feb_xoxo_2

i think one of my favorite pieces from this kit is the clear hearts from heidi swapp. i used the inside and the outsides of all 4 hearts … so i got even more out of them. i backed most of them with pattern paper. but on this card i was just using the thin outside piece … so i decided to brush on a little black paint to make them stand out … super easy. btw … the coloring on the card look off now that i uploaded it … it really is brighter. lol!
    Scrapbook_bakery_feb_card
so make sure to go check out her kit HERE! and a big "thanks" to heather for letting me play with this fun kit!
  • i should really go back over my 2 1/2 years worth of blogging … and see just how many times i used "random" in my title! lol! i try to be original … but the title is actually my most dreaded part of the post. my thoughts are totally jumbled up right now … so i’m going to just pull a few random things out for tonight.

    • finished up some projects today … with a day to spare. lol! doesn’t matter how ahead of time i have the product … or how early i start … or how many good intentions i have. i ALWAYS leave things until the last minute.
    • had an excellent day with the kiddos. yesterday the babies were on totally different nap schedules … so one of them was always sleeping while the other one was awake. but today … they took naps at exactly the same time … for the same amount of time. beautiful thing, i tell you! does wonders for my sanity to have that break during the day!
    • had a visit about daycare today. and i could really use a new kid or two in here. but the call was for 3 kids … 3 boys to be exact! that sounds a little crazy to be honest. i’m open to the idea if she comes back. although it would put me above my limit when the girls are off track and all … since i would have more babies. so hard to work the different ages and schedules sometimes so that you don’t exceed your limit. and also your sanity!
    • i had to stop at target tonight to get some things … index cards for sarah’s animal report, toilet paper, capri suns for lunches, and some baby wipes. and i got something that i’ve been eyeing every single time i go to target … a potato masher! i know, sounds crazy that i would be excited over this … but i am. i’ve been making a lot of "smashed potatoes" lately … and i just my mixing beater to smash the potatoes. can’t wait to use it … but will have to wait since i’ve already done smashed potatoes twice this week.
    • i watched about 4 more movies since last week … since my "movie review" post. but i’m taking a break. i have about 10 shows on my DVR right now. usually i’m super anal about watching them and clearing them off … but i guess i relaxed a little since there aren’t a lot of new shows on lately. i think i have "hot shots", "cashmere mafia", "nip/tuck", "ugly betty", "october road", "las vegas", "gossip girl", and a few more that i can’t think of.
    • it has been super cold here. and i can’t seem to warm up no matter how hard i try. on tuesday i packed up the little ones to walk to school to get the big ones … without realizing just how cold it was out. by the time we got home i could barely even feel my fingers. i have such poor circulation … my fingers and toes will literally turn white. the girls were in awe of it though!
    • i’m thinking i need to bake some cookies. havn’t done that in ages. i need to give some people a "thank you" though. i’m lucky that i have some daycare parents … and an awesome neighbor … that like to bring me starbucks on random occasions. such a nice treat … they know what keeps me going! i want to return the favor … but i’m kind of stuck here during the day. so i appreciate them bringing it to me! will have to bake tomorrow!
    • i have a new idea book waiting for me downstairs … the "designing with recipe book" by autumn leaves. when i know an idea book is coming out (especially anything by autumn leaves or making memories) i will stalk my well-known sites until i find it. i don’t even know if this is available anywhere else yet. but i think this site still has it in stock … and they’re shipping is fantastic. i ordered it late sunday night … and it came today (wednesday). they’re books are just total eye candy! i didn’t even look at it yet … that’s how excited i am to have it. lol! i know that sounds wierd … but i have to wait until the perfect quiet moment to open it and drool over the designs!
    • got an email today from winkflash … their 5×7’s are half off. they’re already cheap at 29 cents … but even better at 14 cents!!! i had a plan in mind that i’ve been wanting to do that would require ordering a big amount of 5×7’s … so perfect timing. you can probably find the coupon code on their site … but leave me a comment if you need the code and i’ll email you back (code is downstairs and i’m being lazy right now!).

ok … i’m done. but mainly because it’s 10:00pm. and if i head downstairs right now … i can squeeze 3 shows in before bed! actually, make that 2 shows … and my daily dose of the "rachael ray" talkshow which is always the last thing i watch before bed!

  • in the middle of the chaos i already have going in my studio … i started this yesterday. you’d think i would just focus on the projects i already had started and get those done. but that’s not how my mind works these days. lol!

    Alyssa_grin

i had this photo of alyssa printed out from a while ago … and i just started pulling out some stuff that went. i wanted to use the autumn leaves buttons … the colors looked so good in the jar. added a journaling notebook page from making memories … and then pulled out some "garden party" pattern paper and some metal rimmed tags. i’ve been adding mini brads to my button centers a lot recently … love how cute it looks. also added a rubon image and the title from heidi swapp.

that’s it for now. hoping to finish up a few layouts tonight … in fact, i really need to since they’re due soon. lol! typical laura style … leave it until the last possible minute. doing things early and ahead of schedule would be too easy! i think i just thrive on that last minute pressure … i think i create better that way!

  • the girls each got a few webkinz animals for christmas … and they have been addicted to the site ever since. so today i took them to pick out a few more with what they had left of their christmas money. of course by the time we got around to getting out … it was raining big time. so i drove in the craziest rain just to get them to a store that sells them.

    Img_8125_edit_resize

each animal comes with a code … and then you can go on the computer and register them using the code. then you can take care of them, buy them things, design their rooms, play games, and more. last night the girls had a last-minute sleepover with their friends heather and holly (which they loved, so thank you deneen!). they all exchanged their animal’s names and info … and now they can send things to each other and chat.

    Img_8122_edit_resize

alyssa now has "icy" the penguin … "charlotte" the pig … "ginger" the cow … and "henry-ada" the hippo.

    Img_8124_edit_resize

sarah now has "lily" the bunny … "logan" the puppy … "america" the dalmation … "snowball" the husky … and "spotty" the frog.

    Img_8134_edit_resize

and here’s the gang hanging out on the scrap island … while they watch their owners play on the computer. lol!

    A_mini_album

and proof that i have scrapped. actually i made this over a week ago … i just have to write a few things in it. i made this simply "because" … to give to someone special. i know, i know … all of you that have names that start with "A" are thinking this is for you. lol! this was made from the large jigsaw chipboard letters from MM … they’re 4 inches square.

have a few more projects i’m finishing up. i have a layout that i will share tomorrow … i just have to journal it. and then a few things that i’ll be able to share later this week.

  • a few randoms things for today . . .

    • the dark, dreary, rainy weather is killing me! makes me not want to do anything. except curl up in a blanket … because i am totally freezing. and it’s not doing any wonders for my hair. i had it all straighened on tuesday and looking fairly good … then i made the mistake of loading up the 3 little ones to walk to school to get the big ones. and it started to sprinkle. and then my hair went frizzy and poofy. sucks. i went straight for a hat today … that way i don’t have to even deal with it.
    • i feel bad because the girls don’t have any heavy winter coats. i just don’t think to buy them … because it’s not like it gets that cold around here. i never wear heavy coats … just a lightweight zip-up hoodie sweater … that’s the most i ever do. but i feel like i need some jackets for the girls to wear to school. unfortunately i checked a few stores last night … and no jackets! apparently january is NOT the time to be buying a winter jacket … although the swimsuits are out in all their glory!!! lol!
    • remember i mentioned the dude came to repair a leak that we had in the house … and how he retextured the wall? and how i told him that i would take care of repainting it … because i’m just nice that way? i’m thinking about taking bets on how long it will take me to actually paint it! those are the kinds of things that end up taking me a year to get too. i have many, many things in the house that just need to be "finished". we had some friends that put up these old wooden shutters in the doorway to our master bathroom (can you believe we didn’t have a door put on there?) … but they had to be painted since he refinished them. 5 years later … and they’re still only half-painted.
    • i never mentioned this … but we had a death in our family a few weeks ago. yes, we lost one of our fish. i know i mentioned this months ago … that i secretly wished they would just "jump" out while i was cleaning their bowl. guess what happened? yep, cleaning their bowl and one of the fish just slipped right out and went right down into the disposal. i’m really weirded out by the garbage disposal … i refuse to stick my hand down there in fear that it will suddenly turn on. i’m also weirded out by fish … i can’t stand to touch them. so needless to say … i was not about to go searching around down there for him. lol! i had hoped that no one would notice … after all, i’m the only one that even bothers with them. but sarah noticed within minutes. they are now telling people that "mom assasinated our fish". lol!
    • did you catch the MM blog on monday? they shared some fun new layouts using the new 5th avenue collection that should be shipping out any day … and there was one of my layouts on there. i did the layout for another project … so i wasn’t expecting to see it on there. and it even has me and joe on it! you won’t find your faces on too many of my layouts. lol!
    • last night i watched lucky you with drew barrymore. not a bad movie. but super long … and it felt long while i watched it. lol! i’m all about the chick flicks. and it did have a little bit of "chick" moments … a little romance and stuff. but it was mainly about poker. and i know nothing about poker … so i was lost half the time. lol!
    • speaking of movies … i’ve seen a few more good ones these past few weeks. i’m not a big movie watcher … i just don’t make time to sit there. i loved in the land of women … with adam brody and meg ryan. suburban girl with sarah michelle geller was a little different … but kind of cute. i have sydney white downstairs right now … havn’t watched it yet, so i can’t give my opinion. but these are the kinds of movies i like … you know, the chick flicks. can’t forget the nanny diaries … the part at the end when the mom writes to the nanny "i’m proud to say he asks for you a little bit less every day" … i think i shed a few tears thinking about all my kids out there that have moved on from me. the waitress with keri russell … seriously good movie … another one that made me cry. and a departure from my usual style of movie … but joe made me watch shattered … which was an excellent supsense movie.
    • how did this turn into a movie review post?!?! if you ever want to know about a movie … ask joe. he’s the total movie buff … he’s seen just about everything out there. lol!

now that i spent all that time searching for movie links … i’m too tired to think of much else right now. i hope to be back with some pictures soon. my camera hasn’t seen the light of day in ages … probably because there is no light lately around here. lol! till later!

  • not quite time to draw names yet … i said monday night, and it's only 5:00 here. so while you wait … thought i'd share these 2 layouts i did today.

    Miranda_smile_2

i can't believe it took me this long to scrap this photo of miranda (a friend of mine's little girl). love my own girls and got some definate good photos of them last year. but honestly … i think this was my best, my most technically awesome photo of 2007. lol! i got some seriously cute stamps this week from hero arts to play around with. i admit to not being much of a stamper … mainly because i get lazy. but this was my first attempt. could have done the trees a little better … i wasn't really paying too much attention to what i was doing and then just decided to use it as it was. and the little circles are too cute!

    Miranda_smile_detail2

    Miranda_smile_detail1

other goodies are mostly making memories … the felt flower, chipboard circles, ribbon, and buttons are all from a little kit i found at michaels … and the rhinestone brads (not from the kit, but still MM). the title and some of the other brads are heidi swapp. stamps and gems are hero arts.

    Haley_its_a_girl_thing

ok … such a similar photo, but different girlie. lol! i had to use the hat on haley … and then was lucky enough to find the same shirt that miranda had worn. i was printing some photos last night and had this 4 inch strip down the side of the paper that was empty … and i hate to waste photo paper. so i printed this photo as a 4×8 … a little different for me.

and i finally used my ki memories lace paper! i've had this for a while … but was scared to cut it because it was so pretty! everything else is making memories … the acrylic frame, epoxy flowers, brads, and chipboard title.

off to finish up dinner. i have the most yummy smelling stew in the crock pot … i've been sniffing it for the last 8 hours. lol! got the rice going … and am about to make the best part … the brown gravy and breadsticks. delicious!

edited to add: thanks so much for all the fun comments. glad to know that i'm not alone in this crazy world … and this stuff happens to other people too. lol! so i printed out all the comments … and took out the couple of duplicates (which were honest double posts … noone is trying to cheat. lol!). then i cut them into strips and crumbled them all up in a pile on the floor … and picked 2 names. brilliant system, i know! and you'll have to trust my honestly on these … as i'm too lazy to take pictures of the names i drew. lol!

winners are "laura t" and "sue m"!!! congrats ladies … send me an email and your address … if you can catch me in time i'm heading to the post office tomorrow!

  • i was thinking about this old story a few days ago … and how it reminds me a lot of things going on right now. i was going to blog about it. but i didn’t. then today i was talking to a friend of mine that was there when this old story happened … and she brought up this same story. i thought that was pretty funny that we both thought about it. so i figured why not re-tell it. may not be the most exciting story (and has nothing to do with scrapping or photography or my kids. lol!) … but i’m telling it anyways. let’s reminisce.

i worked in grocery for years when i was younger. actually i think it was about 12 years worth. i’ve done it all … bagger, courtesy clerk, checker, stocker, pricing, dairy, etc. started at safeway, made my way to foodmaxx (after a small stint in an accounting job), and then back to safeway.

anyways … when i got the job at foodmaxx, i was working in the pricing department (called POS). i helped open up 2 brand-new stores … we set up the entire store and priced it all and got everything scanning in the system … worked 18 hour days for weeks. then for the next year i was the assistant in the department. i went on maternity leave to have alyssa … and when i came back, i actually came back as the head of the department in the other store i had helped open. not like i had a huge department … we had 3 people to do it all. i had an assistant … and a sign maker (at foodmaxx we hand-wrote all our signage for displays and such). and i was in charge of pricing for just about the whole store.

we worked the crazy hours … 3am until noon … and sometimes midnight until 9am. did all the paperwork … and there was a ton! any price that changed had to go through me … sales, group 7’s (all buyins), group 49’s (where we went 1 cent lower than the weekly competitor ads), disco’s, etc. i dealt with vendors (the chip dudes, the soda dudes, the bread dudes, etc), worked with the department heads (meat, produce, gm, bakery), and the night crew manager and grocery manager (to keep up with buyins and when they ran out). printed all the price changes, batched the price changes, hung the tags, changed the signs. we test-scanned the entire store each month … which involves walking around with a price gun and double checking every item on the shelf and displays to look for any pricing discrepancies. we took care of items that weren’t in the system … checkers would tell us … and we would go out and hunt that item down and find out if it was authorized. we added new items into the system … took discontinued items off the shelf. worked with the backroom guy to stay on top of what came in the back door. one thing i prided myself on was that i was always quick to help anyone out … whenever a vendor and department head would ask me to check something … i’d do it right away. i never told them it was too late … i never told them they’d have to wait.

it’s one of those jobs that requires you to do and think about 67 things at one time. to literally be able to walk by a display or an end-cap … and to know that you changed that exact price just that morning … and get a new sign made and hung. i could change probably 1000 tags a day … and could walk the store and know just what i changed. could tell you in a moment what was on display, where it was in the store, what displays had to come down, and what items were displayed in several different locations. i could tell vendors what was going on sale and when … doritos this week, lays next week, etc.

i had 2 great people working for me … and with me. our sign maker, tommy, was a little on the lazy side … and took all day to make the signs i could make in just an hour … but he was funny as heck and a good kid. then i had my assistant, janette … who was such a great friend and a good worker. when she got busy with school and worked less hours … i picked up the slack. truth be told … i could have run that department by myself. i’m like that with paperwork and office type stuff … i was the same way when i worked in accounting. i’m organized and efficient when it comes to getting a ton of crazy things done at the same time … i’m the master multi-tasker.

then janette left me for more schooling and they had to get me a new assistant. so the chick from the front end came over to the department. let’s call her sandra (because really, that’s her name). sandra was ok … she could be a good worker when she wanted. she was good with paperwork … i’ll give her that. she could also disappear and you’d never be able to find her. it was a pretty well-known fact that she liked to "disappear" with the soda vendors … in the parking lot … doing lord knows what (and yes, she was married). it was also well-known that she … how do i put this … let’s just say she would NOT have passed a random drug test while on the job. and one more well-known fact … she was very "in" with the store manager, if you know what i mean. everyone knew this. sandra was one of those people that could just get away with anything.

then i went on maternity leave and had sarah. so sandra took over while i was gone along with another gal that stepped in for a bit. things got messed up … prices weren’t accurate like they were before … things didn’t run as smoothly as when i was there. so then i came back … and i fixed things. got things back in order. i had a 3 yr old and a newborn at home … and i still managed to work the crazy hours. and i could still get everything done in no time at all. the head of pricing for the division knew i could do it all … she knew i was good … and she knew our pricing was accurate.

then one day about 2 months after being back from maternity leave … the store manager told me that he was taking me out the department. my "POS manager" title was being taken away … and i would become a checker. wth? no reason, no explanation. i hadn’t done anything wrong … nothing that anyone could tell me. convienently, sandra was then promoted … and given top pay just like that. after all … she was "in" with the store manager … so you can add that all up, right? the head of pricing for the division said there was nothing she could do … that it was the managers decision and that she couldn’t change that. i was pissed that she didn’t have my back … that she just left me on my own. so i went to the district manager … i told him how i felt, questioned the "managerial" decision, defended my abilities at being able to do it all, and gave the facts about sandra not performing at the standards that were required. he basically said that it was a done deal … did i forget to mention that him and the store manager were friends too? i went to the union … but they said there was nothing they could do either. as long as they didn’t take away my full-time status … and still gave me my top pay … it was totally up to the store manager as to what job i was assigned too and he could put me wherever he wanted to.

i refused to be a checker again. nothing against being a cashier (in fact, i did do it again on occasion when i ended up back at safeway a year later). that’s just not what i was hired by foodmaxx to do. i never studied for my product test … one of the things i would have to pass to be a checker. luckily the grocery manager was on my side … he knew things weren’t right. so he found me other things to do. i started doing schematics … re-setting shelves and displays. working in new items and helping him with inventories. i started working in the GM department (general merchandise, as in health & beauty) … ordering and stocking product. i would go to other foodmaxx stores and audit them … basically randomly checking their prices to see how accurate they were.  i started doing the price-checking … where i’d go out in the middle of the night to competitor stores with our master price list in hand … and would go around and make note of all their prices … then send it to corportate where they would adjust our prices off my notes. not a ton of fun … but the night crew guys at the other stores got to know me and didn’t mind me "spying".

meanwhile … sandra was messing up the store. she wasn’t keeping up on things. test-scan scores were low … and the price audits were terrible. vendors weren’t happy … and she wasn’t too nice to work with. you’d have to wait for things you might need … until she decided she had time. part of me secretly enjoyed watching her mess up … i knew she was stressed and overwhelmed. but at the same time … it made me sad to think that they really thought she was a better POS manager. i know the decision wasn’t based on anything professional … it was a personal decision of the store manager.

i sucked it up and worked there another year. i did have to work with sandra for things … i hated when i had to ask her to create an item for me or put something on sale for me … and she’d take forever to get to it. but i did it. after about a year … i got a job back over at safeway … where i had started out when i was just 16. assistant to the file maintanance manager (which is really the same thing as POS). things were just as crazy there … only a different kind of crazy. totally different pricing system and way of doing things. but everyone would remark on how good i was at the job … how effecient. they knew the older lady in charge didn’t do anything all day … that i was doing it all. to this day i get told that i could run that department by myself … and i know i could. after about 8 months i quit safeway for a second time … to move to our new house and start a daycare business. and with that, my 12 years in grocery came to an end.

ok … now the point of this whole long-winded story? lol! first i want to say that lots of things in this old story remind me of things going on right now. but i know what could happen here. someone could come on here and read into every word i typed … and think that i mean "this" and "that" literally … that i’m accusing people of everything i just wrote. so here’s my disclaimer … i’m not accusing anyone of adultery, or drug use, or being "in" with the boss, or anything like that. lol! just a general "lots-of-things-in-this-old-situation-remind-me-of-things-going-on-right-now-in-a-random-kind-of-way" type of thing.

actually, i think i’ll just leave it at that. no real need to get all specific anyways … won’t really do me any good. plus, i think that was a long enough story don’t you think? lol! i really am an amazing story-teller … i have this ability to make any given story about 4 times longer than it really needs to be. can i make my point in 2 paragraphs? sure … but wouldn’t 13 be more fun?!?!? i’ve been dying to tell that story though. and since angie mentioned it today while on the phone … it was meant to be shared today, right?

btw … are you’re wondering how angie fits into this story? she worked in the GM department … and became the  head of the department sometime in that story. so i worked under her basically. such a good friend. we kept in touch when i left … and then when i moved out here. then she recently moved out here … and started her own daycare business in her home. i think it’s truely amazing that she is the one and only person that i keep in touch with from my old life. and by "old life" … i mean "back-in-the-day". i’ve lost touch with every single other person from high school, all my grocery years, and old friends in general. but we still talk every week. love that.

and your reward if you made it all the way through this story? first off … you have my undying "thanks" for listening. journaling about this stuff really does make me feel better … even if it may make no sense to you sometimes. and i can’t guarantee you all a reward … but how about 2 of you? i had no intention of doing this … but i’m feeling quilty for writing such a long story. lol! leave me a comment … and i’ll draw 2 names for a RAK. don’t know what it’ll be yet … but i’ve been cleaning out some stuff and i have to go to the post office on tuesday anyway. lol! i’ll draw the names monday night!
