• i totally ran out of time to blog last night. a friend of mine mentioned a while back, that i havn't done a "facebook randomness" post in a while. so, here you go. some of my status updates from over the last month. some worth sharing, and some that i should have maybe left over there. lol!

the totally random webcam video's that i find on my laptop are hilarious 🙂

am stalled on my last 2 CHA assignments. Am procrastinating by playing some game on the iPod where I mow the lawn. Lol!

why is it, that i blowdry my hair with a round brush, curling it under. and by the time i'm done, the ends of my hair are all flipped up? makes no sense.

the only reason i'm going outside to trim a few plants, is because they're blocking the window to my scraproom, and i don't have enough natural light coming in to get decent photos of my projects.

love this time of day. everyone is fed. littles are down for naps. alyssa is working on summer projects for school. sarah is probably on the computer or watching tv. and i get some computer time, to accomplish some work without interuption.

it's 2:10am, and i'm waiting for alyssa to get home from the midnight showing of harry potter, so i can go to bed. i have to wake up in less than 5 hours, for work. at least the daycare kids are used to me being sleepy in the mornings. lol!

new hair color. went with golden cappucino this time. i know that packaging is getting smaller these days. but you can't go and reduce the amount of hair color in a box, without giving some sort of warning. halfway through applying the color, and i realize there's hardly anything left. so not cool.

my eyeballs can edit photos no more. taking a break, to do something fun. like laundry. not fun, but needed.

    LauraVegas_MoodBoard_FavoritesDrink_resize

fyi – treat receipts are back at starbucks 🙂

the craziness of making lunch, serving lunch, and cleaning up lunch, to the little ones and big ones is seriously draining. sooooo glad that naptime comes after lunchtime. i need the quietness, and to be left alone for a bit 🙂

overheard on "drop dead diva". in court. jane to offense: "imagine what you could do with all that creativity. i hear scrapbooking is fun". judge: "i will NOT allow anyone in this court to demean scrapbooking". made me laugh 🙂

to any opponents i left hanging on words with friends or hanging with friends … i'll make my moves soon. i promise. kills me to have that many games sitting there, waiting for me. lol!

as seen in the July/August 2011 issue of Creating Keepsakes magazine. copyright creative crafts group. posted with prior permission from the publisher.

at sarah's first soccer meeting last night, they asked the girls how long they'd been playing soccer. when sarah said this was her 9th year, we got a "9th? really?", since she's the youngest on her under-14 team, but had the most years. made me second guess my math skills. but i'm a scrapbooker, and here's proof 🙂

i sort of miss scrapbooking. havn't had as much time to be creative lately. need to make time. i'm itching to cut and paste something.

someone please tell me the light at moffat and industrial will be working again, in 13 days, when school starts. otherwise, dropping off and picking up at the high school is going to be a nightmare. and then there's the trains, that you know will always come when i'm about to cross the tracks. (update – it's back up and running, after weeks of road work)

today has been super hectic and busy. a little work, back to school shopping with the girls, a little more work, took alyssa to get her braces off, more work, dinner, a little work, heading to a team parent meeting for soccer, and then back to work.

can someone tell me where today went?!?! or what i've actually done with my day?!?! weird when you've been going non-stop, yet you feel like you havn't accomplished a thing.

    Wordswithfriends

this is pathetic. out of all the words with friends games that i've been playing for the last month, this is the only game that i actually won. no clue who it was. but they gave up before we even started, and i was declared the winner.

dropped alyssa off at the high school this morning at 8:00, for sophmore "round up day". picking up her schedule, taking school pictures, ordering a yearbook, and stuff like that. yes, that was a chunk of $$$ to fork out already.

that last one was from this morning. i'm sitting here, waiting for the girl to text me, asking me to run back to the school to pick her up. school starts in SIX days. and then i will be taking out my taxi-driver-mom hat again, and putting it to good use 😉

  • i have a brand spankin' new layout to share today. i created this last week for something, and it didn't work out. which is kind of a bummer for me. but the nice thing, is that i don't have to wait six months to share it with you. lol! silver lining, right ;)

    OutForPublication

"life is good in a house of girls". i'm sure joe has lots of complaints about living with three girls. in fact, i know he does. lol! but at the same time, i think he secretly loves it.

for whatever reason, i havn't used stamps on my layouts in ages. so i was determined to stamp on this layout. after digging through my stash, i found this restroom dude stamp. i'm sure that's not the actual name of it, but it's a good description, right? lol! i thought it would be a good representation of joe. and the row of house stamp is one that i have been wanting to use for ages. so, i figured i would work it in some way.

i decided to make just one of the houses green, and the others all pink. sort of like one dude house, in a row of girl houses. i don't have a huge selection of ink colors. so i thought i would try using markers on my stamps, which i have never tried before. i did use a small ink pad on for the green house, and then colored all the other houses with a pink marker.

i used my silhouette to cut out my title. once from brown pattern paper. and then once from green cardstock. i wanted just the "good" to be in green, and then offset it just a tad over the brown. i also used some tiny pink letter stickers, from cosmo cricket, for the sub-title.

i think you all know me by now. and that i always add my journaling last. it was a last minute decision to add some yellow onto the layout. once i had printed my journaling onto some yellow cardstock, i used some yellow buttons to add more yellow to the page.

and speaking of the silhouette. that's something that i'm going to be using a lot in the next few days. can't wait to share 🙂

  • have you heard of deco boards unlimited

    Decoboards

they make these really cool magnetic, dry erase boards. the beauty of these boards, is that you can personalize them, from start to finish. they are not just functional and good for organizing stuff. but they're fun and decorative, and make for great home decor.

    LauraVegas_WhiteBoard_DigitalLayout_resize

you choose what you want on your board. you can upload a favorite photo, a digital layout, or any digial design that you'd like. i choose to create a quick digital layout for my board. i intentionally arranged my photos along the bottom of the layout, so that i would have plenty of room to write on the board, without covering anything up.

    Laura_DecoBoards_3

but the great thing about these boards, is that you can write over the images, and it still looks great. the photo or digital design that you upload will be printed as a watermark. so it will print a little lighter, and the colors will be less saturated. almost like a faded look.

    Laura_DecoBoards_1

every board comes with a plastic frame at no charge. or you can upgrade your frame, for an extra charge, to a wide variety of wood frames. i went with the distressed black for mine.

    Laura_DecoBoards_2

you can visit their website HERE, and play around with creating your own board. also make sure and visit their facebook page HERE, and become a fan so you can keep up with all their latest news and updates.

if you are interested in purchasing one of these cool boards, they have given me a great deal to pass along exclusively to my blog readers. just use coupon code LV10SHIP, for 10% off plus free shipping and handling. this offer is good through august 15, 2011.

now, i just need to go find a spot to hang my board up 😉

  • i wanted to share a layout that i did for july/august issue of creating keepsakes, about 10 months ago (i seriously had to do the math on this. that seems like forever ago). i was asked to create a layout for the "peekaboo, i see you" article, written by mou saha. a few of the layouts, along with mine, ended up in the online section of this article, which can be seen HERE.

    Zachary_WhatIAmDoing
as seen in an online article for the July/August 2011 issue of Creating Keepsakes magazine. copyright creative crafts group. posted with prior permission from the publisher.

i was asked to create an accordian style element on my layout, that would allow you to include lots of photos, but not overwhelm the layout. when i got this assignment, zachary was about 10 months old. he had this one week period, where he started to do a lot of things at once. crawling and standing up, being the biggest things. i had taken a ton of photos of him one day, and i thought they'd be perfect for this idea.

    Zachary_WhatIAmDoing_detail1

so this layout is about what he was doing. right then and there. at 10 months old. i used some of my favorite foam letter stickers from american crafts for my title, and then added some smaller letter stickers from making memories to finish off the title. if you see this in the online article, you'll see the green letter stickers outlined with a thin brown marker. they wanted them to stand out more. i used a fun mix of star embellishments (lots of old product) to embellish that upper corner.

    Zachary_WhatIAmDoing_detail2

the papers and stickers are all from pebbles. this was an older boy collection, that i had always loved, and was glad i had the perfect chance to use it. i'm a huge fan of blue, green, orange, and brown for boy layouts.

    What-open

i decided to print out my focal photo as a 4×6, and then print all my other photos in the 2×3 size. i wanted to make my accordian style book to go the entire 12 inch height of the layout. the actual width of the book is 2.5 inches, so it doesn't take up a lot of room.

    Zachary_WhatIAmDoing_detail4

i started with a sheet of 12×12 green pattern paper. and then i scored it (top to bottom) every 2.5 inches. that allowed me to have a nice, clean fold. i would fold it over one way, and then the opposite way on the next fold. like when we used to make paper fans as kids 😉

i did end up wanting an extra fold in there. with the extra half inch on all my folds, the paper wasn't quite wide enough to get as many folds as i wanted. so i just took an extra sheet of paper, and adhered it to the last fold, to extend it out. not sure that makes sense. but i'm not sure how to explain it. lol! i basically just added paper, to make it the size i needed.

    Zachary_WhatIAmDoing_detail5

then i adhered the backside of my last fold, to where i wanted it on my layout. i have a total of 12 photos on this accordian booklet. 3 on the front. and then 3 photos, in each of the 3 folds. i adhered the 3 photos, top to bottom of the paper, adding in a block of 2×3 pattern paper.

    Zachary_WhatIAmDoing_detail6

and then i added some letter stickers, to describe what zachary was doing. playing. standing. crawling. i also added a few stickers. i kept all flat papers and stickers, since the accordian book already adds some bulk to the layout.

    Zachary_WhatIAmDoing_detail3

i forgot to add, that before i adhered my accordian booklet to the layout, i figured out where i wanted my ribbon to go on the book. i used a few glue dots to adhere it to the back of the book, and then adhered the book to the layout. when i had the book all completed, with photos and stickers, i tied the ribbon on the front to keep it closed. i also added a small metal clip up at the top of the book, and dangled a cute little felt star from it with a beaded metal chain.

hard to believe i created this a full 10 months ago. now, this same little boy, is running in circles all over this house. it's hard to picture a time when he just stood next to the table, holding on for dear life 😉

  • remember about a month ago, when i shared a layout i had created with my friend krista's little girl? well, here's another one that i created at the same time. i already gave both these layouts to krista, but i just hadn't shared this one with you yet.

    Emily_CuteLilChunk

just like the first layout i did for krista, i used the baby mine collection, from fancy pants. this layout was actually based on a sketch, for an upcoming issue of creating keepsakes. it didn't get picked, which is why i can share it now. instead of 6 months from now. lol!

    Emily_CuteLilChunk_page1

when i saw the sketch, i knew the products in this collection would fit the design perfectly. it's a little different look for me, but i had fun with it. and how could i not have fun, with that adorable face looking back at me 😉

    Emily_CuteLilChunk_detail2

the pink rose trim is from american crafts, and the brown polka dot ribbon (not shown in this photo, but in the others) is from jillibean soup

    Emily_CuteLilChunk_page2

emily's mommy gave me the title. i asked her for a little journaling, or some tid bit that would lead me to a title for this layout. she linked me up to the blog post she did about emily at 7 months old, which is when these photos were taken. i pulled out a few things for the short journaling. and the "cute lil chunk" just called out for my title.

    Emily_CuteLilChunk_detail3

the filter flowers were what convinced me to try my hand at the sketch. there are 9 filters in each pack, 3 of each size. it was perfect for what the design called for.

    Emily_CuteLilChunk_detail1

the filters are a pretty good size, so i just scrunched them up and played around with them, until i got them down to a good size for where i was going to put them. i will not even admit to how long i spent on that part of my layout. lol!

  • it turns out, i had another soccer layout to share. i had created this layout recently, and submitted it to some calls. that didn't pan out, and then i sort of forgot about the layout altogether.

    TimeForSoccer

does the look of this layout seem familiar? i created THIS LAYOUT a few months back, and i really liked the page design. i'm of the mindset, that when you have something that works, use it. a few times, in fact.

i took these photos of joe and the girls, last soccer season. we had just gotten back from picture day, and i figured i would snap a few photos of them all, while they were in uniform. and not trying to capture them after a game, when they're all sweaty. lol!

last season, joe was the assisant coach for both the girl's teams. alyssa's team color was black, and the coach's wore red shirts. sarah's team color was blue, and the coach's wore blue shirts. most weeks, their games were so close in timing. or they'd overlap just a tad. so joe would bring both shirts, and while running from one game to the other (clear across the huge park), he would switch shirts. kind of funny sometimes.

    TimeForSoccer_detail3

i went with the colors of red, blue, black, and white. i started the layout, with this star pattern paper, from october afternoon. then i added in the red paper with little stars, the blue paper, and the grey ruled paper, all from bella blvd.

    TimeForSoccer_detail1

for my title, i used a mix of bella blvd letter stickers, and jillibean soup letter stickers. that blue sticker, by the soccer ball, is a super duper old one from making memories

    TimeForSoccer_detail4

i used my silhouette to cut out the soccer ball, and the stars, all from black cardstock. for the soccer ball, i pop dotted up the black piece, on top of the white background piece, just to add a little interest.

    TimeForSoccer_detail2

this pretty much sums up where we're headed. we have sarah's team meeting this evening. she moved up to under-14's this season, and after studying the list, she's the youngest one on the team. we know her coach (alyssa's coach from last season), her assistant coach (joe), their trainer (her coach from 2 years ago that took her team all the way to the top), the team parent (me), a few of her teammates, and that they'll be wearing red.

and alyssa? well, we have her team meeting this coming sunday. she moved up to under-19's. which just sounds crazy old to me. there's this huge gap between the two age groups, under 14's and then straight to under-19's. weird. we have no clue who the coach is, or who's on the team. but we do know that she'll be wearing red as well. another year, with both girls in red. i love it!

  • i think i mentioned that haley has been back with me for the summer, while she's on break from preschool. one of the things that she asks to do the most, is buttons. "can i do buttons, laura?". i don't mind sharing my buttons with her (except my good ones. i hide those). i used to teach classes at a LSS years ago, and had bought like a kazillion buttons for class kits at one point. so i have a good stash of them.

    IMG_2243_edit_resize

she started making this request quite a while back. i tend to work on a few projects here and there, during the day, while the kids are eating or running around. and when i would take out a jar of buttons, she would always ask to "do buttons". at some point, i came up with a way for her to do just that.

we usually make a card base, since it's something smaller in size, and she can take it home with her to give her mom, dad, or her grandma. i cut a piece of cardstock (this one shows kraft cardstock), slightly smaller than the white card base. then i run that piece of cardstock through my zyron, so that the entire thing is covered in really sticky adhesive. before peeling off the backing, i use regular adhesive on the other side and stick it down on the card base. then when i peel off the backing, the zyron adhesive part of the cardstock is on the top. so the entire front of the card is now sticky.

    IMG_2242_edit_resize

and then i give miss haley a big bowl of buttons. she loves green buttons, although i did get her to do red buttons once. she will sit and pick out the perfect buttons, and she starts pushing them onto the sticky cardstock. she keeps going, until she gets the entire thing filled up. and she's really good about making sure to press them all down, really well, so that they don't fall off. she's always so proud of her button card.

    IMG_1975_edit_resize

and what is zachary doing, while haley is "doing buttons"? he's got his potato head glasses on, and his plastic pretend keys. and then he proceeds to try and blow this joint 😉

  • how about a summer layout share today? this is a recent layout, that i created just a few weeks ago. the photos of sarah are from last summer. oddly enough, the girls havn't gone swimming all that much this summer.

    Sarah_JustWorkinOnHerTan

"just workin on her tan". just like the journaling says, she honestly doesn't HAVE to work on her tan. lol! sarah is our chocolate brown girl. she gets SO dark in the summer, it's kind of crazy. just like her dad, she's got the puerto rican blood in her, and they have a super easy time getting that dark skin. she's a huge fish too. she could live in the pool, if grammy and papa would let her.

    Sarah_JustWorkinOnHerTan_detail3

for my title letters, i dug out some really old raw chipboard letters from making memories, and painted  them with brown acrylic paint. i adhered them to my layout, using mini pop dots. i also used some letter stickers from bella blvd, to mix in for my title.

    Sarah_JustWorkinOnHerTan_detail2

i had the green cardstock half circle on the page already, but felt like it needed a little something more to make it stand out. so i took out some paper flowers in coordinating colors, cut them in half, and adhered them going around the circle. they are tucked under the circle just a teeny tiny bit. then i added a matching jewel to each flower. btw, the papers are all from the all inclusive collection, from bella blvd.

    Sarah_JustWorkinOnHerTan_detail1

the blue tag is an older one i had laying around. i just measured it, and typed up my journaling to fit in the same general size and shape. after i printed my journaling on white cardstock, i cut it into the same tag shape. tied a few small pieces of ribbon to the tags, and added a simple sticker to the blue one. overall, a very quick and easy layout 🙂
