• i keep meaning to get back to a regular blog schedule over here. i have good intentions, and then it just doesn't seem to happen. my bad. i know when it was announced that i was taking on a new position at bella blvd, and that a huge part of my job would be taking over their blog, a few of you said that you hoped that i would still post on my own blog. and i was all like "of course i will. that won't change". lol! it just so happened, that when i officially took over the blog, i had 3-4 super intense weeks of blogging ahead of me. that is part of the reason i've been more quiet here. i'm on the tail end of week 3, so there's hope for me yet 🙂

    BELLA BOOTH DAY 1 SHOW

i have to share a few things with you though, since i'm so excited about what bella blvd is doing and working on. CHA started yesterday, in chicago. check out how amazing the booth looks! stephanie and her team did such a fantastic job at designing and decorating the booth for this show.

the did such a great job, that they were chosen by Scrap Time as one of the top two picks for day one, in their annual "most creative booth" contest. for each day of the show, they choose two of their favorite booths, and you get to vote on which one is the most creative. you can see more photos, see who bella is up against, get all the info, and VOTE. all RIGHT HERE.

    0 SO MANY PROJECTS

i usually only make it to the winter shows. for this show, i'm working behind the scenes. running the blog and posting all the updates and projects. there are LOADS and LOADS of projects, from all of bella's talented CHA designers. i know how fun it is to get at the show, and see the layouts, the cards, the mini albums, and the altered projects, up close and in person. but for those of us that can't be at the show, i'm doing the next best thing. i'm posting all these projects on the bella blvd blog. there is so much great stuff on the blog. there's even two posts on certain days. so make sure and check it all out, because i've put a ton of time into it all 😉

  • guess what time it is around here? soccer time! we got our first call about fall soccer a few days ago, and should get our second call any day now. it's always exciting for the girls to hear what team they're going to be on, what color jersey they get, who their coach is, and if any of their friends are on their team. and it reminded me that i've been wanting to share this layout.

    SoccerStars
as seen in the July/August 2011 issue of Creating Keepsakes magazine. copyright creative crafts group. posted with prior permission from the publisher.

creating keepsakes had a call out, earlier this year, looking for layouts based around the theme of "through the years". i knew right away, what layout i wanted to make for this call. and luckily,  they liked what i created enough to want to publish it in the magazine.

    SoccerStars_page1

there's a little story behind this layout. i had the idea a few years ago, to do a layout showing the girls progressing from year to year, in soccer. in fact, i actually started it. see these two rows of photos on the first page of the layout? the five photos of alyssa and the five photos of sarah? i had put those together years ago. it had to be over 3 years ago, since the photos went until 2007. i had the photos cut out to size, and adhered them to white cardstock to make my photo strips.

and then i never did anything with them. so, when this call came up, i already had a start on this layout. i just pulled out these two strips of photos, and used those as my starting point.

    SoccerStars_page2

of course, the girls had added three more years of soccer to their resume. so i printed out three more photos of alyssa and three more of sarah, and turned it into a two page layout.

we have had a wide range of colors through the years. actually, now that i look at it, i guess it's not that wide a range. a lot of red, blue, grey, and black. with a little green, bright pink, and light pink (the least favorite by far) mixed in. btw, rumor has it that we'll have one girl in red this season, and one in black. again. since there was so much color in the photos, i kept the papers pretty neutral. i used a tan sort of colored, swiss dotted cardstock for my background pages, along with a strip of black & white polka dot patterened paper.

    SoccerStars_detail2

these soccer stickers are super old. i really liked how they were arranged on the sheet, all collaged together. but it wasn't quite big enough to stretch 12 inches tall on my page. so i adhered each of the stickers to white cardstock, and then cut them out. that way, they weren't sticky, since i wanted to use pop dots on some of them. i just collaged them together, on a strip of white cardstock, leaving little spaces between each of the stickers. i used pop dots on some of the stickers, to add some extra dimension. then i adhered the entire piece to my layout.

    SoccerStars_detail

these soccer ball buttons are super old too. it's interesting what i hold onto sometimes.

journaling reads: alyssa and sarah started playing soccer 8 years ago. alyssa was 7 years old, and sarah was just 4 years old. it is just crazy, how much a part of our life, soccer has become. between the 2 of them, they have now played on 21 teams total, 4 of those indoor soccer teams. joe and i have drive them to at least 550 practices. we have watched close to 240 games. they both play forward, and have scored dozens and dozens of goals over the years. they have collected 18 trophies, and 4 medals. they have both gained so much experience and knowledge of the game. their skills and abilities have improved more than we could have expected, making them valuable soccer players. we absolutely love watching them play, year after year. it's amazing to think back to when they first started playing the game, and compare it to where they are now. we are so proud of the soccer stars they have grown into!

right after making this layout, i had taken photos of each of the photos on the layout. half of these were before the digital days, so i couldn't just pull up the images. plus, i wanted to be able to see the year that each photo was from. i think i had meant to blog the photos at one point, knowing that it would be months before the layout came out in the magazine. since i have these, i figured i'd toss up their cute faces, through the years 🙂

since making this layout, we can add 2 more teams to their list. sarah's all-star team from this past season, and alyssa's first year playing for high school. maybe i need to do a layout about joe's years of coaching, and my years of being team mom too 😉

  • the last new collection is up on the bella blvd blog today.

    LauraVegas_ItsChristmas

remember what i said yesterday, about needing  my halloween products to be full of bright and fun colors? well, i feel the same way about christmas products. i need the bright and happy colors, to match my girls and our house. and the christmas wishes collection is full of fun, colorful items!

    LauraVegas_ItsChristmas_detail1

there is plenty of your typical red and green colors. but i love that there is some yellow, pink, and turquoise colors mixed into the collection as well. it's such a fun touch. did you know that i decorate our christmas tree with simple red, green, turquoise, and pink ball ornaments? true story. and i LOVE the peace signs on the papers and the little chipboard accent. fits my girls so well.

    LauraVegas_ItsChristmas_detail3

the chipboard stickers are so cute. i added a few coordinating pearl accents to the christmas tree and the presents.

    LauraVegas_ItsChristmas_detail4

i also love that so many of the pattern papers can be used for layouts of any theme. i love tone on tone papers, and subtle patterns. i could see using this brown striped paper, or the green scalloped paper on tons of my layouts.

    LauraVegas_Christmas_card

and a quick christmas card. i love the font on the letter stickers, and also added in a few of the new chipboard numbers. the stamp is a calendar month itty bitty from unity stamps, co-branded with bella blvd.

    LauraVegas_Christmas_card_detail

make sure and head over to the bella blvd blog, where you can see the entire collection, piece by piece. and don't forget to leave a comment, since one lucky winner will receive this entire collection before it's even in stores.

  • it's day three of the collection reveals on the bella blvd blog.

    TCTSLOGO

a fun halloween collection! now, i'm the first to admit, that i'm not a big halloween scrapper. this might be because my girls are never dressed up in typical halloween colored costumes, which means my photos don't necessarily match the fun halloween collections. BUT. i do enjoy making halloween projects and cards. and for me to enjoy and love a halloween collection, it has to be fun and bright, with colors that really "pop". and "too cute to spook" is just that.

    LauraVegas_CuteWitch

there was this one year, that sarah actually did wear a witch costume, in typical halloween colors. thank you, sarah!  because i really wanted to use that little witch chipboard piece 🙂

    LauraVegas_CuteWitch_detail1

i love the mix of purple, orange, green, and black for halloween. that black cloud chipboard piece is so simple, and yet it was one of my favorite chipboard pieces.

    LauraVegas_CuteWitch_detail3

or maybe the polka dot chipboard border was my favorite piece. i love the funky scalloped border, and it was the exact height of my photo.

    LauraVegas_CuteWitch_detail4

small secret. i messed up on my hand written journaling. the very last word that i wrote. the journaling block was already stitched down, and i didn't want to have to take it apart. so i re-wrote some of the words on another paper, cut them out, and pop dotted them over the original words. looks like it was planned, right 😉

    LauraVegas_CuteWitch_detail5

i love all the little word and phrase stickers. i'm embarrased to admit, how long i actually spend picking out the right mix for my projects, in the right colors. lol!

    LauraVegas_YouAreBootiful_card

i couldn't resist using this boo-tiful monster girl cut out. too stinkin cute.

    LauraVegas_YouAreBootiful_card_detail

normally, i would have pop dotted the cut out piece. but i knew i wanted to pop dot the little thought bubble, so i just adhered the monster girl directly to the card front.

    LauraVegas_HalloweenTreatBucket

i was stressing over what my project was going to be for the halloween collection. i'm not always the best at coming up with ideas. we were out to dinner, for joe's birthday over the weekend, and i made everyone stop at michaels. i left them in the car, and told them to give me 3 minutes. honestly, i do believe i was in and out of the store in about that time, with this metal bucket in my bag. ran in, did a quick scan of the sections that i usually go to for project ideas, and found the bucket.

    LauraVegas_HalloweenTreatBucket2

i love how this turned out. in fact, i'm going to have to go back to michaels and get another bucket. because i need one of these for halloween. i cut one inch strips of a bunch of my favorite papers, and machine stitched around the edges of each one. to adhered them around the bucket, i simply used glue dots. the ribbons tied around the handle are all just random, older ribbons that i had in my stash. i just looked for ribbons in orange, purple, aqua, and black.

    LauraVegas_HalloweenTreatBucket3

i cut a few of the cute  monsters and bats out of the pattern paper, and adhered them around the bucket using pop dots. i finished it off with some of the phrase and word stickers.

head on over to the bella blvd blog, to see the entire collection, piece by piece. and don't forget to comment on the bella blvd blog, to be entered in a giveaway for this entire collection.

  • time for another bella blvd release!

    FFLOGO

i have always LOVED fall. mostly for the gorgeous colors. brown, orange, green, red, yellow, and turqouise. these are all colors that i decorate my home in, dress in, and love to use on my layouts. i have always wished that we could live somewhere, that experiences a true "fall". streets lined with huge trees, leaves falling and covering the ground. a cool, crisp breeze in the air. we don't experience anything like that here where i live.

    LauraVegas_PumpkinPickin

and yet, i know i will be able to work the finally fall collection into so many of my projects. of course, the pumpkin patch is one thing, that is "fall" to us. so i went with that theme for my first layout with this collection.

    LauraVegas_PumpkinPickin_detail1

there's a few new colors this release, for the ciao chip chipboard letter stickers. the orange set goes perfectly with this collection. but because of the papers that i had pulled out, the orange just sort of blended in. so i went with the fun turquoise letters. once again, i mixed the chipboard letters and the cardstock letters together for my title.

    LauraVegas_PumpkinPickin_detail4

i love the tree i created for this layout. but i have to be honest with you. i had cut the half circle from the green woodgrain paper, stitched around the edges, and adhered it to the top corner of the layout. i just knew i wanted some color up there. as i was picking out a few embellishments, i wanted to see how the chipboard tree looked on my page. this corner was the logical spot, since i knew my title was going on the opposite side. i had the tree sitting here, overlapping the green half circle. and it wasn't until later that night, that i realized it looked like the green paper was the tree. lol!

    LauraVegas_PumpkinPickin_detail3

i should have lied and told you all that it was planned that way from the start. lol! but i admit to loving, when a "happy accident" happens.

head on over to the bella blvd blog, where you can see the ENTIRE collection, piece by piece. and don't forget to leave a comment there, so that you can be entered in their giveaway. one lucky person, will win this collection, before it even hits stores.

  • i mentioned that i was ready to get back to updating my blog, and i have lots to share over the next few days. truth be told, i'm consumed with bella blvd right now and loving it! this time around, you don't have to wait until CHA actually starts, to see the new releases and even some of the projects. so i'm sharing my projects here, just like i'm doing on the bella blvd blog this week.

    MTTLOGO

i was really excited to hear that Bella Blvd was coming out with a sports collection. we have a lot of sports going on in this house, and i have oddles of sports photos to scrap. love the colors in this collection, and the touches of black really make the colors "pop". here are a few of my first projects made with this collection.

    LauraVegas_SoftballIsHerGame

my girls are all about soccer, and are going on their 9th season any day now. but, for a few years, sarah was all about softball.

    LauraVegas_SoftballIsHerGame_detail1

i love the banner chipboard stickers, and added a few phrase stickers on top of them.

    LauraVegas_SoftballIsHerGame_detail4

the black chipboard letter stickers are new. i really love using a mix of the chipboard letters and the cardstock letter stickers, for my titles.

    LauraVegas_AllStarCoach_card

i like to have cards on hand, for the coach's, at the end of the season. i had used 3 of the red chipboard banner pieces on my layout, and had 2 left over that i wanted to use on the card. i like to group my embellishments in odd number, so i added a cardstock sticker in between them, secured with a brad.

    LauraVegas_AllStarCoach_card_detail

i love that this "coach" sticker was perfectly sized for a standard sized card. it made it easy to build the rest of the papers around that piece.

  • after taking a week off from my blog, i'm ready to get back to it this coming week. i thought i would start out simple today, and link you to a post i just typed up for bella blvd.

    LauraVegas_SoftballIsHerGame_detail4

i've been working hard on CHA booth samples this week, and am finishing up my last few projects this afternoon. i just shared a bunch of sneak peeks of some of my projects, on the bella blvd blog. i'm only showing you one peek here, so you'll have to go check out their blog to see the other 6 peeks, and to read about what else we have planned this week ;)

  • i was *this* close to not blogging at all today. figured i could at least throw up a layout, and write a few quick words for you.

    Sunshine_PocketPage_layout

this layout was one of the MANY, MANY projects that i created for my denver filming adventure, back in march, for creating keepsakes. i was doing a segment on creating pockets on our layouts, using pattern paper.

    Sunshine_PocketPage_detail1

i had used a scalloped edged template, and traced it onto my pattern papers, which i then cut out. i layered them together, starting at the top, onto a piece of white cardstock. i only put adhesive on the sides and the bottom of the papers, so that the top would remain open. therefore, creating pockets.

    Sunshine_PocketPage_detail2

then i tucked my photos and some fun decorative tags, randomly, in the pockets. i should have added some journaling, but i was so swamped with the workload for the filming, that i never got to it.

and with that, i've decided to take the rest of this week off from blogging. i hate to do it, honestly. BUT. i'm still recovering from my surgery last week. now that i'm finally up and around a little more, i'm frantically (but slowly, because i'm still not moving frantically. lol!) trying to catch up on what i missed while i was living on the couch for 5 days. i'm back to work today, and hoping the little ones understand why laura can't pick them up at all. the 4.5 yr old won't take issue with that, but the 18 month old might. i'm also blogging like crazy like week, on the bella blvd blog, as we are having a big team-up week feature. and i have a ton of CHA assignments that i need to start, and finish, in the next few days. so i'll meet you all back here next monday. i promise 🙂

  • i've been sitting on this news for a full month now. it hasn't been easy to keep quiet, because i'm really excited about this. and because i'm terrible at keeping secrets. lol! guess who is joining the bella blvd team?

     Bella

i'm thrilled to be taking on the new position of  Design Team & Special Projects Coordinator. i've already been hard at work over the last month, and am really looking forward to officially taking over the areas that i'll be responsible for. to read more about what i'll be doing and working on, and to find out a little more about me, click HERE.

in taking on this new position, it did require me to step down from my other design teams. it wasn't an easy decision to leave making memories and pebbles, but i felt like it was time for a big change. and this position was a good fit for me. i'll be forever grateful for my years with making memories, and the last year with pebbles, and will really miss everyone that i worked with on both teams.

  • are you ready for the winner of the giveaway, for the spot in maggie holmes next photography workshop? i turned to the handy random number generator, for the responsibility of choosing a winner. i had 73 comment, which reassured me that i'm not the only one with photography issues. lol! so, from 73 comments, our winner is:

Great giveaway! Do I ever need it. I take the worst photos ever. I need help with everything. Posted by: Kathy C.

huge congrats kathy!!! i'm going to pass on your email info to maggie, and she'll be in touch with you about what else you need to do! enjoy the class and fun with it!

sorry i'm a little late getting this up today. i debated even sharing this, thinking it's maybe TMI. lol! but i had minor surgery yesterday, for a lovely hernia repair. something that i've had issues with for over a year now, but they kept telling me it was just too much acid in my tummy. well, a year later, and they finally determined it WAS a hernia, just like i had said from the beginning. anyways. had surgery, and am feeling like death right now. it's kicking my tush. but it's only been 21 hours since the surgery, so i guess i should give it some time.

so i may not be blogging tomorrow. but you'll want to come back on friday, because i have huge news to share! i've made some changes in my scrapping life. i've stepped away from a few opportunities, so that i could take on a brand new opportunity. and i'm super excited that i'll finally be able to share all about it on friday!
